Job Description

Summary We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Forester. In this key, hands-on role, youll help to maintain excellent standards of presentation, woodland management, and conservation in order to deliver a visitor experience worthy of one of the northeast’s major visitor attractions.The estate is a grade 1 registered landscape, and the emphasis is, therefore, on arboricultural principles and practices, rather than commercial forestry.Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, including Bank Holidays, and you will also be part of the duty manager rota for daily operations on the property.Salary: Dependanton experience£27,000pa to£30,000paContract: PermanentInterviews: 7th / 8th JanuaryIf you have any questions about this role please contact: .uk What its like to work here Set in the heart of the stunning Northumberland landscape, Cragside is a unique place to work. Just as Armstrong’s vision was brought to fruition through creative collaboration, today a multi-disciplinaryteam works to look after the place in a way that makes it enjoyable and relevant to our visitors, allowing them to connect with it on an emotional level too.Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing As the Senior Forester, working within the forestry team, you will be responsible for helping care for, and manage, the Cragside estate. This will include carrying out a wide range of tree and woodland practical maintenance activities, along with some wildlifeconservation activity.Youll also be responsible for supervising the forestry team activities in the absence of the Head Forester. This will include some administrative responsibilities including meetings, planning, and ensuring compliance and essential tasks are completed.A natural ambassador for the National Trust, you’ll be responsible for helping with excellent communication of our conservation and woodland management work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing, as well as contractors.You’ll be required to be First Aid At Work qualified and have a full driving license. Who were looking for To succeed in this role youll have:

  • practical experience of woodland management, tree safety work and inspections
  • NPTC certificates including chainsaw units 201, 202 , 301, 302 (maintenance and cross cutting, Small, med fell, assisted fell, and windblown timber) NPTC tractor, PA1/PA6 spraying, chipper, and forestry machine operator units FMO 208, 209 (base unit andline skidder)
  • a full UK Driving licence
  • a proven track record in health and safety and environmental compliance
  • experience of supervising contractors or working with outside agencies.
