Job Description

Maternity Cover Full time, 32.5 hours per weekCottenham Village College has an exciting opportunity for a Head of English (Maternity Cover) to join their team to cover maternity leave!This is an exciting opportunity to apply for the Head of English position to support colleagues within the department to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom and beyond and be accountable for raising standards of student attainment and achievementwithin the department, monitoring and supporting student progress.The successful candidate will be an experienced and outstanding classroom practitioner with a track record of strong outcomes and will:

  • Set challenging teaching and learning objectives which are relevant to all students.
  • Develop strategies for the use of Literacy & Numeracy to promote new teaching methods and improve learning and monitor their effectiveness in raising standards of teaching and learning.
  • Lead or contribute to professional development activities as part of the planned programme for the school and to promote the sharing of good practice.
  • Make appropriate use of the schools monitoring and assessment strategies to evaluate students progress towards planned learning objectives.
  • Use monitoring and assessment information to improve planning and teaching.
  • Have high expectations of students and build successful relationships centred on teaching and learning.
  • Establish a purposeful learning environment where diversity is valued and where students feel safe and secure and confident
We are looking for individuals who have:
  • Qualified teacher status
  • Detailed understanding of planning the KS3 curriculum
  • Proven experience of leadership at KS3 and/or KS4 with excellent classroom management skills
