Job Description

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Servicehave a fantastic opportunity for aChildren and Young People (CYP) Officerto work with our Community Safety Prevention teamon a12-month fixed term contract (37 hoursper week).In return, you will receive a competitive salary of£35,745 - £38,223 per annum.Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Serviceis the largest non-metropolitan Fire Service in England. Keeping people safe is what we do, and we owe our fantastic reputation to our highly skilled and motivated workforce.About the role:As ourChildren and Young People (CYP) Officer, you will support, create, develop and implement Service policy, procedures and resources in relation to CYP delivery and education across DSFRS. You will also support the Head of Safeguardingwith safeguarding activities in line with the grade of the post.Key responsibilities as our Children and Young People (CYP) Officer:

  • To create and develop innovative, relevant, differentiated, quality assured programmes and resources to target, engage and educate children and young people
  • Management and monitoring of policies, tools, processes and procedures to ensure the successful delivery of CYP programmes
  • Alignment of baseline Information Assurance and Safeguarding to ensure a safe environment for CYPs and instructors that is consistent across DSFRS
  • Develop a quality assured training programme for CYP instructors to support facilitating CYP interventions in line with National Fire Chiefs Council best practice guidance
  • Supporting CYP Lead Instructors sharing best practice, innovation, experiential learning amongst peers through CPD training
  • To monitor and support CYP Instructors in line with requirements of Safer Recruitment Policy and processes and manage performance and development
  • Provide quality assurance mechanisms and processes to ensure consistent effective delivery in line with information assurance processes. Maintain confidentiality of information and records securely and appropriately. To support and create mechanisms toensure appropriate systems and guidelines are in place to support CYP programme activities
  • Develop and maintain partnerships within DSFRS and externally to improve and maintain CYP delivery to ensure continued learning and development by sharing of best practice
  • To co-ordinate CYP programmes by supporting the wider Community Safety agenda by delivering local and national themed safety calendars and social action events
  • Ensuring appropriate mechanisms are in place to ensure effective exchange of information with staff, partners and external agencies in line with DSFRS information assurance policy and procedures and compliance with GDPR
  • To provide advice and guidance to support parents, staff and external agencies on all aspects of children and young people who display signs of arson-related behaviour
  • To liaise with the communications team to effectively market and promote CYP activity within DFRS, the wider community and through the NFCC CYP board to promote and share best practice across FRSs nationally
  • Supporting the Safeguarding team with safeguarding activities related to referrals and processes

  • Proven track record of interventions and diversionary activities for children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Experience of working within a safeguarding environment with children and/or vulnerable adults
  • Proven experience of effectively working with children and young people / vulnerable adults with due regard to safeguarding protocols ideally within an educational setting
  • Working within an educational institution, youth working environment or equivalent
  • Proven ability to develop, deliver and evaluate programmes and resources
  • Proven ability to create innovative solutions to complex issues
  • Proven ability to research, analyse and interpret information in a clear and concise manner to determine the appropriate course of action
