Job Description

This fantastic religious charitable organisation looking to appoint an experienced QualifiedFinance Manager to manage theirIncome and Gift Aid Bureau. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance you will lead a team in the provision of a high-quality customer-focused service that includes accounting forincome, managing gift aid bureau and the preparation of statutory accounts for two Pension Schemes.In this crucial role, the Finance Manager – Income will be responsible for ensuring the income is accounted for and reported in line with all relevant standards and the gift aid bureau service is compliant with relevant legislation. The key to this roleis to provide support to volunteers within the wider community.The post holder will have proven abilities in the management of all aspects of charity income, financial reporting functions and good knowledge of relevant legislation. They will be an effective leader and understand how to get the best from the people in theirteam. They will have strong interpersonal skills that enable them to develop effective relationships outside the finance function. They will understand what success looks like from the perspective of the ‘customer’ and be able to implement strategies thatdeliver a high level of customer satisfaction. They will also be sympathetic to the ethos of the Methodist Church.Main Responsibilities

  • Regularly review income processes (including donations, investments, legacies etc) to ensure the Church’s processes are fully compliant with existing trust and charity law and donor wishes and that any inter-fund transfers and internal and external rechargesare accurately calculated, properly supported and promptly effected and/or collected.
  • Ensure the Income Team is properly trained, adequately engaged and works to challenging but achievable targets.
  • Prepare the statutory financial statements for the Lay and Ministers Pension Schemes and manage audit processes.
  • Manage and act as the main contact for the Gift Aid Bureau service, ensuring a high degree of customer service and effectively deal with any issues.
  • Manage the financial and treasury management aspects of the Methodist Church’s main funds and associated bank accounts ensuring liquidity and prompt investment of all surplus funds.
  • Ensure that all control accounts are reconciled each month and any reconciling items are resolved.
  • Keep abreast of legislation, including HMRC regulations, exposure drafts, accounting principles that affect the Church, particularly with regards to Income and develop appropriate policy and guidance notes both to inform and to ensure compliance. Keep abreastof Standing Orders as well as the Agenda and minutes of Conference, Council and SRC decisions in so far as these are relevant to the Finance Department and to ensure that changes are implemented fully.
  • Manage relations with Finance Systems providers including revisions to service levels and software development.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Assistant Director of Finance or Director of Finance and Resources
