Overview and Responsibilities Higher Level Teaching Assistant: Future PathwaysLocation:Caterham, SurreyContract:Full-time, Permanent, Term Time Only Salary:£13.80ph - £15.06ph (£24,652.67 - £26,904.21 actual annual salary) dependant on experience Hours:40 hours per weekRedehall School / Caterham Education CentreWe are currently looking to recruit a HLTA: Future Pathways. For Redehall school predominately working out of Caterham Education Centre (CEC). This is an exciting new role to support our students aged 11-16. CEC is a 30-place secondary learningcentre supporting young people who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Autism.CEC is part of Aurora Redehall Schoolthey share the same Principal and Head of School, however each site has its own Assistant Head and team of Teachers and TAs. There is also a full therapy team on site to support staff and students. Although the sitesoperate separately on the whole, students and staff do cross between sites occasionally.Main PurposeThe purpose of the HLTA: Future Pathways role is to embed the Gatsby Good Careers Benchmarks into the school, ensuring that all students are prepared for the next stage in their education, employment or training.Key Duties:You will be accountable to the school leadership teams to provide the following roles and responsibilities.   • Ensure that every student has appropriate careers guidance, from Year 7 and above, escalating to include external careers advice from the end of Key stage 3.
  • Work with The Careers and Enterprise Company to track and review the school’s progress towards the Gatsby Benchmarks, including using the ‘Compass’ tool for that purpose.
  • Lead the school’s careers programme.
  • Report termly and annually to Governors on the school’s progress towards the eight Gatsby benchmarks of good careers provision.
  • Ensure student encounters with a broad range of local employers and employees, locally and nationally.
  • Lead additional programmes to ensure that students can confidently apply and interview for their first role and to support them to understand how to overcome challenges in their first role, enabling a high proportion to retain that role (Applications, CVs,interview techniques, conflict at work, appropriate vocabulary for predictable conversations in the workplace)
  • Maintain a record of destination data for leavers, up to 5 years after leaving.
  • Support parents in engaging with all aspects of the school’s Careers programme.
  • Organise an annual careers day/week.
Coordinate work experience placements
  • Engage local employers in providing work experience placements to students, relevant to their areas of interest and skills.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments are in place for all providers and exercise due diligence in checking providers’ safeguarding information, including DBS checks on staff and safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Create and distribute a provider ‘welcome pack’ containing all the necessary information for students to experience a successful work experience placement.
Skills and Qualifications Qualifications
  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification or demonstrate equivalent skill level.
  • GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • Career guidance Qualification recognised but the CDI is desirable but not essential.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Knowledge of the Gatsby Good Careers Benchmarks and experience of delivering them within a school setting
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of students with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting
Skills and Behaviours
  • Commitment to the role, the desire to put the student first and treat them as an individual.
  • Be positive and creative in meeting students’ needs.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and professionals with good interpersonal skills
  • Competent ICT skills
