Job Description

Named Veterinary Surgeon SALARY:£55k basic and 10% bonus based upon performanceLOCATION: UK BasedREF:ALS 2523We are looking to recruit a Named Veterinary Surgeon to join our growing team of locum and permanent NVSs. The role includes travel to specific sites whilst acting as named role in full capacity of a Named Veterinary Surgeon. The role will be to provideadvice on the health, welfare and treatment of the animals and to provide advice to the Establishment Licence Holder.Basic Requirements:

  • Travel to specific facilities with occasional overnight stay.
  • Be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
  • Be familiar with the main provisions of ASPAandact as a named person in full capacity as an NVS.
  • An ability to concentrate on, and perform, routine and repetitive tasks as an individual and under the direction of Management.
  • Qualified to produce export certification as per DEFRA latest guidelines.
  • Rodent/lagomorph experience essential
  • Be familiar with the husbandry, biology, physiology, surgical and clinical issues relevant to the species for which you will be responsible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate programmes of veterinary care and health monitoring.
  • Be actively involved, on a day-to-day basis, in safeguarding the welfare of the protected animals at the establishments.
  • Monitor the health and welfare of the animals under your care by regularly visiting all parts of your establishment specified in the establishment licences, ensuring veterinary reports are completed for each animal seen.
  • Ensure that adequate veterinary cover and services are available at all times at the establishment.
  • Performance of pre-shipment health checks of groups of animals to be shipped. Authorise / stamp TRACES documents for exports.
  • Advise on biosecurity issues and be able to advise on quarantine requirements and health screening.
  • Provide veterinary advice and treatment, where needed and when requested by a personal licence holder to key staff.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the husbandry, housing and welfare needs of the animals kept at the establishment, including the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease and the impact of housing and husbandry systems on the welfare and needs of an animal.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations relating to the supply and use of controlled drugs, prescription-only medication and other therapeutic substances used on animals.
  • Be an active member of, and play a central role in, the AWERB meetings.
  • Development of AVS colleagues including advice and personal training and development.
  • Undertake pre-arranged (non-urgent) and emergency surgeries.
  • Training to clients as per expertise.
