Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.We currently have a vacancy for a Cropping Systems Research Fellow/ Lecturer, with an expected salary range of £36,413 - £40,129 per annum, depending on skills, experience and qualifications.The Department of Rural Land Use is seeking to expand its agri-food systems research team. The purpose of the role is to advance research and support teaching related to sustainable cropping systems. Our research focuses on the develop of sustainable, resilient, net zero agricultural systems. We have core strengths in crop and soil science and our research interests include nutrient management, crop rotation design, increasing diversity in crop and grassland production and the integration of livestock into cropping systems. We are developing a new long-term experimental platform for cropping systems research. This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in an academic/industry partnership for research and knowledge exchange.Applicants with an emphasis on cropping systems management, nutrient management, agroecology or crop physiology are particularly welcome. You will grasp the opportunity to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations and ambitions that will build on current strengths within the department, and across the institution.ResponsibilitiesYou will be highly motivated with a commitment to the highest quality of research and teaching. Working as part of the agri-food team you will be highly enthusiastic, professional and collegiate and expected to contribute to all aspects as follows:• Conduct collaborative research projects nationally and internationally • Develop the external reputation of SRUC as a leading institution in cropping systems research• Develop projects with colleagues in collaborative research projects to contribute to national and international funding proposals• Maintain a regular output of high-quality research which is published in leading research journals or other outputs as appropriate to the discipline• Contribute to teaching at undergrad and postgrad in your subject area• Plan resource use and manage project administrationThe candidate will be suitably qualified to PhD level (or equivalent) in a subject related to plant/crop science or agronomy. A developing track record of obtaining project/grant funding, research and/or project leadership is essential as is experience of practical work related to crops with sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge to work within established programmes.
