We’re also proud to be a B Corp.What you’ll be doingRiverford’s range of H&S risks is extensive, reflecting the breadth of our business. For example, we have production facilities, farms, a restaurant, public events, a large fleet of vehicles and numerous delivery hubs across England and Wales. You certainly won’t be bored! In recent years, we’ve worked hard to develop a robust H&S management system and nurture a positive culture. The challenge is now to finish developing and implementing our risk management and monitoring systems. You will also be working with managers to develop continuous improvement plans.One of the key aims of this hands-on role is to work with line managers to broaden their knowledge, awareness and understanding, enabling them to take greater responsibility and ownership of H&S in their area. We are also looking to develop a stronger network of H&S champions across the business.This is an exciting new position, and you’ll be working closely with the H&S Manager to develop and shape the role.This is a permanent contract working 40 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday.Your responsibilities- Provide H&S advice, support and guidance across all areas of the Riverford business, including compliance issues- Manage the risk assessment process by undertaking annual reviews in conjunction with line managers to ensure that suitable and sufficient risk assessments and safe systems of work are in place for all identified and foreseeable hazards- Assist with the development and review of fire safety arrangements and fire risk assessments across all Riverford sites- Carry out health and safety inspections and fire risk assessments of our distribution hubs- Monitor and review the effectiveness of health and safety management systems by conducting site and departmental health and safety reviews and audits- Conduct incident and accident investigations, ensuring that these are used as learning opportunities, with actions to prevent recurrence communicated and embedded throughout Riverford operations- Assist the Health and Safety Manager in developing and reviewing policies and procedures- Design, develop and deliver health & safety awareness training and briefings- Support the People (HR) function in the development of personal risk assessments- Ensure an appropriate distribution of First Aiders and Fire Wardens at Riverford sites- Liaise with H&S Representatives to gain an appreciation of what is working well at grass roots level and to escalate concerns where necessary- Maintain and update health and safety documents, registers and notices- Deputise for the Health and Safety Manager and provide cover when requiredSkills & experience- At least three years relevant experience of health and safety in a similar role within a multi-site, diverse organisation. Experience gained in a production environment is desirable- Experienced and skilled at advising, communicating and influencing at all levels within an organisation. Experience of driving health and safety change- Possess a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent level 6 H&S qualification (or working towards this)- Chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards chartered status- In-depth knowledge of risk management, health and safety legislation, codes of practice and their pragmatic application- Good investigative, analytical and report writing skills- Good presentation skills and experience of developing and delivering health and safety training. A training qualification is desirable- Experience of reviewing and auditing health and safety arrangements. An auditing qualification is desirable- A valid driving licence and willingness to regularly travel to other Riverford sites e.g. Peterborough, with overnight stays as necessary.
