About the team:The Lishman Unit is a National specialist Neuropsychiatric inpatient unit. It is comprised of 15 beds split into two distinct pathways: Organic/Brain Injury; and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). The Brain Injury pathway is a level 1 Brain injury unit providing specialist rehabilitation for patients with cognitive, behavioural and psychiatric disorders following acquired brain injury of any cause.The FND pathway involves planned admissions for specialist rehabilitation which aims to increase patient’s understanding of the diagnosis, ability to manage symptoms and increase independence and functioning. Patients typically present with symptoms such as non-epileptic seizures, dissociative or memory difficulties, functional movement symptoms, limb weakness, sensory difficulties such as numbness, and often co-occurring pain, fatigue and mental health complexities.The multi-disciplinary team is comprised of a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and Psychiatrists, Highly Specialist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, Neuro/Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Social Worker, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, and Rehab Support Workers. As one of few FND units in the UK, you will work closely and collaboratively with a highly experienced and supportive team to deliver an individually tailored rehabilitation programme to unique and diverse patients from around the country.About the role:We are looking for a motivated Clinical Psychologist to join the FND Pathway team. Being a clinical post, you will primarily provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment for patients with FND. It is a CBT-based programme however training in alternative therapeutic models and ability to work flexibly and adapt to individual patient needs and mental health co-morbidities is desired. You will also have a leadership role regarding the provision and development of psychological services on the unit, providing supervision to Assistant and Trainee Psychologists and supporting the multi-disciplinary team with a psychologically-informed treatment approach. As a senior member of the team, you will be able to drive and shape new service developments.This is a unique chance for specialist clinical experience in an exciting and growing field within Neuropsychiatry. There is potential to develop research projects, and you will have excellent learning and development opportunities within the wider Neuropsychiatry Department based at the Maudsley Hospital, national professional FND Networking bodies, and through partnership with the prestigious Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, Kings College London.About the location:The Lishman Unit is a National specialist inpatient Neuropsychiatric unit and we are currently located within Bethlem Royal Hospital, Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, Kent, BR3 3BXOur Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2).
