Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting an HSE Manager for a manufacturing businessThe OpportunityTo lead the development, implementation and maintenance of compliant safety, health and environmental management systems across all groups and operations, advising on legislation and best practice and also auditing compliance to identify areas of improvement.Assist the UK Head of SHE in the implementation of the group SHE management system. Promote a positive safety culture.Location (s):Barton Under NeedwoodRole and Responsibilities:

  • Provide occupational health, safety and environmental service to all Group & operations and associated personnel, including upkeep of associated management systems and interpretation and applicability of legislation to the Company and its operations.
  • Ensuring the safety, health and environment of all employees/ persons
  • Work closely with responsible Managers, and other key staff to establish and maintain key Health, Safety and Environmental improvements within their areas of responsibility.
  • Implement a site audit programme, ensuring compliance with all associated legislation and management system requirements. Carry out all audits and ensure that any remedial recommendations are followed up.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous safety, health and environmental improvement and implement programmes to deliver these.
  • Assist in the selection and deployment of suitable technology-based solutions to drive improvements in health, safety and environment.
  • Principal contact with external, regulatory, audit and trade bodies on health, safety and environmental matters e.g. HSE, EA, BSI.
  • Participate and support in accident and incident investigations, ensuring the meeting of statutory reporting deadlines to HSE where applicable, establishing root causes and suitable and sufficient controls.
  • Provision of statistics, trend analysis etc. Develop and monitor H&S key performance indicators, providing management with statistical analysis and taking remedial action where necessary.
  • Chair the quarterly LH Group & FT 15D operations Safety Committees.
  • Support in the implementation of Risk/CoSHH assessments ensuring suitable and sufficient safe working instructions are determined and communicated as appropriate.
  • Embed a culture of pro-active risk management in health, safety and environment.
  • Assess the Company and individual needs for health, safety and environmental training in respect of maintaining statutory levels of training and competence. Promote good safety, health and environmental practices by training and educating people and supportingmanagers and other key staff. Responsible for the delivery of health, safety and environmental training either in-house or externally.
  • Manage the Company alcohol and drugs screening programme, including provision of contractor screening services, ensuring that absolute confidentiality and chain of custody requirements are met.
  • Liaise with insurers and solicitors on the provision of information, reports and investigations of personal injury/ illness claims.
  • Ensure the implementation of effective emergency procedures, ensuring compatibility with other site occupants. Carry out regular auditing/ checking of effectiveness.
  • Provide Health, Safety and Environmental support to key projects.
  • Effectively communicate all relevant safety, health and environmental information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Attend and actively participate in the Group Safety Council and promote safety excellence.
Essentials
  • NEBOSH Qualification
  • Current Driving License
  • Experience working in a safety-critical environment.
  • Experience in implementing a cultural change in regard to H&S
Desirable
  • Grad IOSH status
  • Engineering Experience/ Qualification
  • Lead Auditor (14001, 45001, 18001)
