Job Description

Join us as a Senior Materials and Welding Engineer, adding real purpose and direction to your career by helping us deliver energy safely to customers and shaping our transformation journey to decarbonise the energy sector.Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you`ll hold a core role within our Engineering Team.The Engineering team provides technical expertise and guidance to operational, project delivery and hydrogen asset development teams to drive regulatory compliance and ensure our assets are fit for purpose.You will be supporting the development of technical specifications, troubleshooting asset quality and technical issues and undertaking the technical qualification of suppliers for pressure vessels, piping and fittings. You will be leading the qualificationof such items for natural gas and hydrogen transportation infrastructure development, working closely with the rest of the engineering team, project, quality and procurement and supply chain teams.Key accountabilities will include:

  • Developing company technical specifications for pressure vessel equipment including heat exchangers, filters and pressure regulating skid units
  • Developing company technical specifications for pressure equipment
  • Leading the review & approval of welding procedures from contractor/suppliers for compliance with Cadent Gas specifications for all manufactured products, determining the appropriate welding specifications/methodology for the project
  • Investigating quality issues with equipment, working with operations teams and suppliers to resolve
  • Planning and undertaking technical qualification of key suppliers Inspection and Test Plans, via desktop review of documentation and supplier manufacturing visits driving better quality of equipment
  • Proactively participating in the continuous improvement of supplier quality management processes
  • Within a specialist area, providing a comprehensive knowledge and support for meeting statutory and regulatory obligations
  • Participating in incident investigations as required. Ensuring that the learning from incident reviews and investigations are communicated with action plans delivered
  • Supporting research and technology development related to engineering assets, driving benefits into the business
  • Providing technical expertise to support innovation, hydrogen projects and field trials
  • Identifying the scope for continuous improvement of safety and business performance in areas of engineering practice
  • Developing, recommending and implementing improvements to engineering processes to improve efficiency or the quality of the service provided to stakeholders.
  • Working closely with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure framework suppliers are delivering to expected quality
  • Identifying and promoting best practice with operational and delivery teams, driving standardisation across the company
  • Supporting stakeholders with delivery of solutions for assets requiring remediation following inspection, maintenance and surveillance activities
  • Leading the scope development, review and technical acceptance of work undertaken by external engineering consultancies
  • Leading in role of informed buyer for engineering equipment and service providers related to discipline
  • Reviewing deviations and technical queries to standards, within area of expertise
  • Providing engineering expertise to formal process safety assessments (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, etc)
About YouYoull possess the majority of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Experience with pressure equipment such as vessels and heat exchangers, either within a gas transmission, distribution, oil and gas, process or petrochemical operator environment. Alternatively as an application or manufacturing engineer at a main equipmentmanufacturer, design consultancy or notified body
  • Knowledge of and practical application using design codes for pressure vessels and heat exchangers. i.e. ASME, TEMA, PD5500 and BS EN specific standards
  • Good understanding of application and compliance to pressure equipment directive (PED 2014/68/EU) and manufacturing assurance conformity assessments i.e. UKCA, CE
  • Experience with piping and materials, either within a gas transmission, distribution, oil and gas, process or petrochemical operator environment or as application engineer (or similar) at an operating company, design company, distributor or manufacturingmill
  • Workshop or design experience in either engineering support and/or technical quality role related to the design, manufacturing of pressure systems
  • Have previously developed / updated technical specifications
  • Undertaken the technical qualification of pressure vessels, piping or similar assets
  • Qualified Welding Engineer, IWE/EWE level or Degree in welding/materials engineering or Chartered Engineer and Member of the Welding Institute (CEng MWeldI)
  • Qualification/evidence of training in current NDT methods used - UT, RT, MPI
