Job Description

A school in Wythenshawe is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to take on the role of School Librarian. This presents itself as the ideal opportunity for an individual looking to join the support staff in a busy school, on a temporary basis. Applications are welcomed from the following:

  • Graduates.
  • Those who have prior experience within a library setting.
  • Those who have worked with young people in the development of general literacy.
  • It is essential that the required applicant will:
  • Have a genuine passion for books, reading, as well as working alongside young people.
  • A degree (preferable, though not essential)
  • GCSE pass in English Literature.
  • The position will begin after the February half term, and will run through until the end of the academic year.It is essential that the individual will:
  • Maintain a positive working environment within the library, ensuring that students are adhering to school policy.
  • Have an understanding of issues related safeguarding, as well as general health and safety factors.
  • Instil a culture focused on the benefits of reading and engaging with literature as a whole.
  • Actively promote the use of the library to students, as well as develop positive relationships with both students and other staff.
  • To ensure that the library is suitably stocked, with regards to relevant educational material and resources.
  • Promote literacy through wall displays, be able to provide educational material that engages students within the reading process.
  • Work to ensure that the library is a suitable environment for quiet reading/learning to take place.
  • Competently use library software, as well as work in collaboration with student librarians.
  • Working with support staff to aid student’s who require interventions with regards to reading/general literacy.
  • Have excellent communication skills – both with regards to verbal and non verbal communication.
  • The school’s location is a short distance from Manchester city centre. There are numerous public transport links within close proximity to the school itself, as well as multiple motorway links.
