Job Description

This organisation are a cutting edge global Engineering and Manufacturing business. They are currently looking for a Lead Metallurgist within Heat Treatment and Metallurgy.Working alongside a multi-functional team, the Heat Treatment Specialist will be responsible for the leadership of all technical activities within the metallurgy laboratory, and the daily management of activity in the department. The role will also provideverification and support to the onsite Heat Treatment facility in the daily inspection and operational activities. The role will require maintaining a consistent standard of laboratory practices and material acceptance processes, in accordance with recognizednational and internal standards. The role will also Provide technical assistance to both the supply chain, procurement, engineering, and heat treatment teams to ensure independent technical advice and verification of materials and or certification, whilstalso liaising with 3rd party material laboratories.Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assessment of material microstructures.
  • Determination of case depth through hardness traverses to verify the output of heat treatment.
  • Management of a small team.
  • Conduct material hardness testing using various methods (Vickers, Rockwell, Brinell).
  • Perform Radiographic interpretation of X-Rays supplied by third parties.
  • Perform material Failure investigation using a range of techniques, technical material knowledge, and consult with third party material test houses to support root cause analysis.
Requirements:
  • General knowledge of other ferrous and non-ferrous material production and heat treatment (Aluminium, Brass, Cast Iron, Nickel).
  • Experience in materials testing (Tensile and Impact).
  • Experience of material failure analysis and investigation.
  • Experience and/or qualifications in Non-destructive testing disciplines (Visual, MPI, DPI, UT, Radiography, Nital etch, Barkhausen).
  • Experience and/or qualifications in welding and fabrication inspection.
  • You will be currently working with heat treatment or metallurgy
