Job Description

Overview and Responsibilities HLTA - Pastoral, Aurora WoodlandsContract Type: Term Time OnlyHours: 40 hours per week, term time onlySalary: £13.14 p/hr - £14.34 p/hr depending on experience and qualificationsLocation: Aurora Woodlands, DarwenThe Aurora GroupThe Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. Aurora Woodlands School is an independent day school in Lancashire providing specialist education foryoung people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).Main purpose of the role:The focus of the HLTA: Pastoral is to address pastoral and academic barriers to learning for a targeted group of individual pupils via small group and 1-1 study sessions to enable them to achieve their full potential. Developing and implementing integrationpackages, pastoral, and catch-up interventions, liaising with families and agencies to enhance access to education.The job description is based on the generic HLTA and there will be specific focus around Pastoral such as, but not limited to

  • Devise and develop a range of alternative strategies to promote functional, improving behaviour & well-being, addressing the needs of specific children on a day-by-day
  • Deliver individual and group restorative mentoring programmes, which provide a range of strategies to support and develop pupil’s specific needs
Skills and Qualifications Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate –
  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification is required
  • GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Able to work within the parameters of the physical demands of the job role.
