Job Description

Project Planners work with the project/programme teams, other planners and stakeholders, overseeing plans and schedules, challenging and testing project assumptions to ensure that plans and estimates that underpin them are realistic and achievable as the project/programme proceeds. Project Planners play a key role in delivering advice and guidance to the project/programme leadership and their teams on how to best deliver the required outputs, products and activities within the scope of the plan within the Home Office Transformation Portfolio. It is large, complex and challenging, encompassing over 20 major and/or mission critical projects and programmes plus four business portfolios of change. Leading on immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime and fire policy, counter-terrorism and work to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK. The Role of a Project Planner Your role as Project Planner will be to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are defined. You will provide clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can be achieved, with the resources available. You will lead on all aspects of project planning, which will include the development, updating and monitoring of plans and scheduling. You will identify tasks, activities, interdependencies and outputs for the project and work team to track and monitor progress against the plan throughout the life of the project. Key Outcome & Deliverables Demonstrable and relevant experience of schedule management within Portfolio / Programme / Project management in a complex delivery and contractual environment. Highly proactive with an ability to take ownership and drive through tasks to completion Able to demonstrate experience of working effectively with stakeholders to achieve results in line with complex governance arrangements and tight timelines Strong interpersonal skills. The ability to establish credibility and exert influence with key stakeholders and suppliers at an operational level. Experienced in identifying and resolving issues with demonstrable ability to find innovative ways to resolve problems or escalate as required Maintain effective performance in difficult and challenging circumstance, encouraging others to do the same. Extensive experience of various scheduling software, such as MS Project Online, Visio, power point Experience across all phases of the programme lifecycle in a technology implementation Desirable: Experience gained from working on a complex Major Programme, preferably in a mix of Government and Public sectors. Telecoms planning experience PMO team experience Priority 1 programme experience Good level of technology experience Good level of experience with deployment/ roll out to a national programme Good level of experience managing and engaging with 3 rd party suppliers Good level of understanding of commercials and contractual obligations with Suppliers Good level of experience of customer engagement Good level of experience presenting data and leading video calls to a wide audience Good level of experience of capturing actions and following up on these through to completion APM Practitioner Qualification, APM Registered Project Professional, , MSP, SP-PMI Valid Security Clearance Please note successful applicants will be expected to go through vetting and Security Clearance.
