Job Description

Location: UK Flexible*Salary: Circa £44,000 per annumContract type: PermanentWe are looking for an experienced international security advisor to be the primary lead for international safety and security to the British Red Cross International Directorate. With a focus on security related risk management, safety and security procedures and compliance reporting, you will contribute to effective security and safety management in all areas of BRC international work.What you will be doingThe British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are, its what we do. To do that effectively, we need a Safety and Security Adviser who will contribute to effective security and safety management in British Red Cross operations by providing advice, support and training to the field both in the UK and overseas and UK-based personnel on security and safety issues. You will provide advice, support and training to the staff and delegates with the aim of maintaining high standards in security and safety awareness, management and practice, in order to minimise risks to staff and thereby contribute to more effective programmes. You will also alert British Red Cross senior management to threats arising as well as non-compliance with security and safety procedures and to recommend appropriate action.*whilst the role is flexible on location, please note that frequent travel to our London head office will be requiredWhat we are looking forThis is a challenging role that requires a strong, resilient individual who has relevant experience of undertaking security assessments, developing country security plans, contingency plans and implementing security and safety procedures. Therefore, travel for up to two weeks at a time several times a year is expected.Diplomatic with good stakeholder engagement, you must also have demonstrable experience in developing, presenting and facilitating appropriate security training for staff as well as in establishing and maintaining incident reporting, incident mapping and analysis systems. With sound political and security knowledge of the regions in which British Red Cross is operational (Africa, MENA and Asia), we would particularly welcome applicants with previous experience of representation and liaison at a senior level, particularly with INGOs, government authorities and the UN.Meet the teamThe Safety & Security Adviser role sits within the Health, Safety & Security Team, but providing direct support to the International Directorate. You will have close working relationships with peers in other Red Cross National Societies as well as with counterparts in the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
