Job Description

Position: Assistant Family Solicitor - Fee Earner/CaseworkerSalary: £40,000 region (dependent on experience)Location: UB7Description:Our client is a reputable law firm with several offices. Due to continued growth they are looking to recruit anAssistant Family Solicitor - Fee Earner/Caseworker.Reporting To:Responsible to Partners and Departmental ManagerQualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Degree or recognised diploma.
  • Pass or above of the Legal Practice Course or Law Society Finals.
  • Valid current Law Society Practising Certificate.
  • Eligibility or membership of local Court.
  • Excellent advocacy, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work to set deadlines.
  • Ability to decide and act upon priorities of work and function effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to get on with people and motivate others.
  • File management skills.
  • Financial management.
  • Responsibilities & Tasks:
  • To manage case files in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards.
  • To ensure all financial transactions accord with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • To attend upon clients of the firm either at Court or in the office or in custody or elsewhere to obtain their instructions and provide them with advice and assistance.
  • To attend upon witnesses, experts or others and to obtain relevant statements or opinions in connection with clients cases.
  • To visit or arrange to be visited relevant sites and prepare plans, sketches and/photographs and render any evidence thus obtained into admissible form.
  • To communicate where appropriate with clients and other parties by letter, telephone and in person.
  • To arrange for attendances upon and to assist Counsel, clients and witnesses at Court hearings and at case conferences where required.
  • To ensure clients affairs and the business of the firm are kept confidential.
  • To effectively manage case load.
  • To carry out the correct preparation for all hearings, pleas or Trials and to ensure that all listings are dealt with promptly and accurately.
  • Where appropriate to ensure that files are briefed and billed promptly.
  • To ensure that proofs of evidence, observations on evidence and witness statements are taken and prepared promptly.
  • To effectively delegate and supervise work undertaken by support staff.
  • To advise on appeals, to obtain Counsels advice on appeals and lodging appeals as necessary.
  • To carry out advocacy in the relevant Courts.
  • Where relevant to instruct Agent Solicitors or Counsel to attend at the relevant Courts.
  • To attend and contribute to departmental and firms meetings as required.
  • To use best endeavours to promote the interest and welfare of the firm and its clients.
  • To observe and perform the guidelines and procedures contained in the Office and Departmental Manuals.
  • Experience in public law child care proceedings is essential. The role is predominately legal aid.If you would like to be considered for the role then please submit your CV for consideration.
