Job Description

Please note, those successful at interview will commence their EOC training on the 13th January 2021 which requires 100% attendance for a minimum period of up to 4 weeks minimum (duration to be confirmed)Please view attached rota as you will need to be able to confirm you are able to commit to this rota pattern if invited for interview.Would you like to be part of a team delivering an invaluable service to the patients of Yorkshire Would you like to work for an ambitious and challenging organisation which will share your passion for high quality patient careYorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is now recruiting for Call Handlers in our Emergency (999) Operations Centres based in Wakefield and York. As an EMD Telephone Advisor, your role is to answer Emergency and Non-Emergency calls within our Emergency Operations Centre. This could include:- Taking Emergency Calls from members of the public and giving the appropriate advice to care for the patient until the ambulance arrives on scene- Taking emergency calls from the Police and Fire Services - Taking emergency and non-emergency bookings from Health Care Professionals (HCPs), Nurses and Hospitals for patient transfers - Informing Police, Fire and other agencies about incidents- Answering general enquiry calls- Assisting ambulance crews and dispatchers with information and directions as and when necessary e.g. during a Major incidentNo two shifts will ever be the same for example your first call on shift could be from someone who has had a heart attack in a busy shopping centre followed by a call from a distraught mother regarding her very sick baby. You would be expected to work a full time shift pattern which will include working unsociable hours, weekends, Bank Holidays and the Christmas/New Year period. This includes up to a maximum of 4 night shifts in a week on 8 or 10 hour shifts. You would therefore need to be able to make your way to and from work at various times of the day and night.Please be aware, on commencing employment in the EOC department you will be allocated a rota line and we ask that you commit to this rota until at the earliest, month twelve of your employment.EMD Telephone Advisors undertake an in-house training course (duration to be confirmed)which will include classroom training with assessments and exams which you will need to (duration to be confirmed) whereby you would have undergone written and observation assessments before being signed off as a competent EMD Telephone Advisor.If you wish to apply for this vacancy, it is important that you demonstrate clearly in your application how you meet the essential criteria listed on the Job Description.Yorkshire Ambulance Service is an integral part of all the health communities across Yorkshire and our aim is to provide the highest quality patient care.
