Job Description

Job title: Project Manager - Underground tunnellingLocation: Liverpool Manchester Leeds York ScarboroughJob type: Full time, Permanent, Willing to travelSalary: £60k - £90kHunter Mason Consulting is looking for a Project Manager with underground tunnelling experience for a tier 2 contractor. This company has a global presence and has a reputation for pushing boundaries to achieve results in multiple sectors. They create ateam environment where they want people to grow, develop and shine.The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the project complies with all current H&S at work, legislation construction specifications and clients’ site-specific requirements. The Project Manager helps to create and maintain a safe and healthy workingenvironment, motivating the workforce through proactive engagement and ensuring RAMS, briefings, TBTs are briefed to all and are fully complied with. Whilst ensuring a focus on quality delivery is maintained.Key responsibilities

  • Lead by personal example and consistently set high standards of health and safety performance and behaviour.
  • Ensure the commercial performance of the contract is maximised
  • Produce procurement schedules and liaise with the procurement department to ensure sites have adequate resources to complete the tasks
  • Continually forecasting, keeping the team informed of forecasts and changes and managing the scope meticulously, so knowing the costs for unplanned construction work or resources and keeping that set-aside
  • Deliver the works undertaken by employees ensuring the highest standards of Health & Safety and Quality are adhered to, with due regard to the protection of the workforce, public and the environment.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with the Clients health & safety policies, rules and standards.
  • Proactively manage any subcontractors whom it is necessary to interface with on site.
  • Ensure that those carrying out the works are aware and accurately informed about the risks and the control measures associated with their works by ensuring that all operatives have been briefed and have signed up to the appropriate Method Statement andRisk Assessment.
  • Ensure all operatives have received a site-specific induction.
  • Actively encourage feedback from the team (promoting the observation Cards) and take appropriate action where necessary.
  • Maintain the flow of information to the workforce through posters and TBT’s.
  • Challenge poor health & safety performance and personally act where there is a breach of rules or unsafe working practices.
  • Ensure accidents, incidents, near misses are reported and where necessary investigated, any incident resulting in a personal injury or damage should be immediately reported to the Managing Director and Group Health and Safety Manager.
  • Ensure any area following a serious incident is preserved, persons involved are interviewed and any evidence maintained.
  • Actively reinforce the Corporate message that staff have the right to stop work where continuing to do so may expose employees and others to harm.
  • Assist in the development of JGL’s emergency procedures including fire, first aid and evacuation and understand any Clients procedures or processes which may impact on the successful evacuation of any JGL employees.
  • Understand the JGL and Clients environmental management plan and assist them in its pursuit of continual improvement in environmental performance.
  • Co-operate and collaborate with any client’s health and safety inspectors and advisors in all health and safety matters.
  • Your priority is the safety of the workforce and compliance with both company and clients standards
  • Ensure all construction activities are in accordance with the latest drawings and specifications.
  • Review shift reports.
  • Where clashes in services or buildability issues are identified escalate the requirement for information through the request for information (RFI) process, the response to this information should be monitored and where necessary early warnings raised throughthe commercial team.
Key requirements
  • Experience of Tunnelling Projects
  • Understanding of Health and Safety at work act 1974 and other relevant legislation
  • SMSTS and CSCS
  • Proficient in NEC3 Option A & C contracts and change management
  • Willingness to travel
