Job Description

Job Title: Safety OfficerLocation: HMS RaleighSF32955Purpose of roleTo deliver a high quality fire-fighting training delivery service in line with Babcock requirements, To perform the role of Safety Officer; operating the Unit by computer, or facilitating the training requirements within the Fire-fighting Facility wearing Breathing Apparatus (BA). You will work in an effective collaborative manner with all staff, displaying the appropriate behaviours at all times.This is a physically demanding role which can be exposed to both a wet working environment and extremes of temperature, whilst wearing BA and Fire Retardant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Main TasksYou will accept "as ready" for training, the assigned training area.Carry out the Role of Safety Officer for courses as detailed by the Training PlanOperate the FFTU Control Computer for all courses as detailed by the Training PlanComplete relevant training operational documentation, recording and reporting all deficiencies occurring during training.Shut down and hand back the training area in accordance with laid down proceduresBe responsible for the Health and Safety of all personnel within the training facilities when conducting training operations.Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times.Ensure safe operation of training facilities iaw FFTUs Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)Ensure that the equipment and materials in all FTU areas are fit for purpose, maintained, cleaned and in date for safe operation.Ensure that all staff and student are wearing PPE, clothing and any specialist equipment is suitable, in date and in accordance with the FFTU SSOWs.Carry out the duties of Breathing Apparatus Room Operator.Carry out the duties of stand in Senior Safety Officer if suitably qualified.Undertake other peripheral support duties reasonably requested of you within your capacity, including the duties of the Training Support Staff - Issue Centre.Required skills, experience and qualificationsYou will require a flexible can do approach to work along with good communication skills both verbal and written.We would like you to be a team player, with knowledge of the Maritime Industry. You should also be physically fit and able to wear BA.Finally, we would like you to have the following:• Ms Office / IT skills• Full Driving Licence• STCW MCA qualified in Fire Prevention & Firefighting• BA Maintainer qualified• 1st AiderWhat else do I need to know• All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be subject to satisfactory security clearance which includes 3 years reference checks.
