Job Description

Assistant Operations ManagerSalary - £27k per annumLocation - Tividale Our client is looking for a proactive and positive Assistant Operations Manager, capable of supporting the Operations Manager in managing a team of 300 drivers, to join the team at their Tividale Depot. It is the largest of their Midlands depots, operating 117 vehicles across the West Midlands and Warwickshire.Reporting to the Operations Manager, the focus of your role will be to support the Operations Manager in managing all bus operations and play a major part in growing profitability and providing a consistent quality of service to customers. The Assistant Operations Manager will be expected to cover the Operations Manager during absence whilst maintaining the same level of quality.To be successful in this role, candidates must be able to multitask and communicate effectively. Experience in a supervisory role is desirable. Ideally the successful candidate will have experience of working in a passenger vehicle service, having skills of networks, timetables and scheduling. Candidates with a background in management, network management / operations or operations supervisor / scheduler would also be considered.Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will need to be flexible and prepared to work the required hours to support the demands of the business, which may include anti-social hours.Key Accountabilities

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will assist them in effectively managing the team of inspectors and drivers.
  • Act as a point of escalation for the inspectors with any driver issues or customer queries.
  • Support the Operations Manager in ensuring drivers and operational staff adhere to the Company Health and Safety polices and regulations.
  • Provide cover for the inspectors and be able to step into their role at short notice and manage run out issues and monitor early and late running.
  • Address driver issues at run out and be able to process phone calls from drivers and make decisions as to the right course of action.
  • Drive engagement with the depot team, including driving staff and customers.
  • Building and maintaining and positive working relationship between the engineering, commercial and operations department.
  • Be able to provide effective cover to the Operations Manager position if they are unavailable.
  • Deal with telephone queries and support the satisfactory resolution of customer queries.
  • Complete fact-finding investigations and absence meetings with the operational team in accordance with Company Policy,
  • Support the Operations Manager in maintaining positive relations with local authorities.
  • Liaise with external bodies to improve performance of lost miles and punctuality.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager in ensuring all cash handling procedures are followed.
  • To carry out driver appraisals and direct report appraisals to improve staff skills and identify any training needs.
  • To ensure all drivers are inducted effectively.
  • To ensure that staff welfare issues are dealt with effectively.
  • Support the Operations Manager in delivering agreed key performance indicators.
  • Assist the Operations Manager in developing and implementing strategies to improve operational performance.
  • Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Experience of supervising or managing people.
  • Experience of showcasing customer service skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to analyse reports.
  • An appropriate level of IT skills.
  • PCV licence holder is required (expired PCV licence may be considered)
  • Previous experience of working in a passenger vehicle operation is desirable.
  • The correct candidate will be reliable, flexible, hardworking and trustworthy.
