Job Description

Our client, a therapeutic day school specialising in helping young people with special educational needs, is looking for a Keyworker to join the team at their beautiful premises near Peterborough.In this role you will play a vital role in helping students achieve their educational potential, build self esteem and manage anxiety.Keyworker (SEND TA)Thorney, Peterborough, PE6 0SA40 weeks per year (term time + training days + 1 week during August)£16,489.31 to £22,629.25 FTE37.5 hours per weekWorking Pattern: 40 weeks per year (term time + training days + one week during summer break)Contract type: PermanentThis school aims to help young people who have special educational needs related to their social interaction and communication difficulties typically found in children who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and who may, additionally, have specificlearning difficulties, achieve amazing things.The schools workrooms and classrooms occupy a former family home, a lodge and a renovated chapel, in a peaceful village East of Peterborough.As a Keyworker, you will manage and support pupils within the school and to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Senior Management Team.In this role your primary responsibilities will be:

  • To be mindful at all times that pupils are kept safe from any form of harm.
  • To follow the instructions given by the appropriate senior staff member as regards any learning programmes in place for any allocated pupil for the stated minimum percentage of time.
  • To maintain discipline in accordance with the rules, behaviour and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • To contribute to meetings and discussions necessary to enhance the work of the school as a whole.
  • To promote equal opportunities within the school and to seek to ensure the implementation of the equal opportunities policy.
  • To maintain the security and wellbeing of all pupils at all times.
  • To at all times adhere to, and ensure, wherever possible and practical, adherence to the policies and procedures of the school.

  • Experience of working with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Skills in working collaboratively
  • Ability to be compassionate and willing to learn
  • Ability to apply behaviour management policies and strategies so as to contribute to a purposeful learning environment
  • Educated to GCSE level in English, Maths and at least 3 other subjects
  • Be committed to own continued professional development
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural framework
Desirable
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Teaching Assistant Qualification or similar
  • Qualification in ASD or similar
