Job Description

Slitter Operative:Our client is looking to recruit Slitter Operatives to work on an ongoing basis at their high spec facility in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.Duties will include:

  • Adhering to the scheduled production program
  • Safe and efficient operation of a slitting machine to achieve optimum run speeds and required productivity / waste targets. Where targets are not achieved, the machine operator is responsible for reporting any limiting factors to a shift supervisor andconversion manager, and recording details on the daily production log
  • Safe operation of semi-automatic core cutting machine; cutting cores to correct size and ensuring adequate supply for production requirements
  • Operation of the rewinder equipment; actioning reworks as they are identified / on shift
  • Manual handling and maneuvering of reels; use of lifting and handling equipment; loading parent reels on to the unwind unit and unloading finished goods from the rewind section
  • Monitoring work in progress reels throughout production for flagged material / lamination joins; removing affected material and re-splicing in accordance with customers requirements
  • Frequent and thorough monitoring throughout production / checking samples to ensure that all work produced is :
    • Of the highest possible quality standard and free from defect
    • Accurate to the design laysheet and customers specification
    • In compliance with customer requirements ie reel joins, labeling, wrapping, stacking, pallet specification etc
  • Safe handling, use and setting of sharp blades
  • Retaining numbered samples of all finished goods reels produced; inspecting samples for general quality before packing
  • Quarantining suspect / poor quality product and completing appropriate paperwork
  • Utilising the Frontline Management Software System to report all engineering issues to the Engineering Department
  • Conducting weekly machine safety checks and recording outcome on relevant documentation
  • Accurately inputting production data in to the work station computer. Ensuring that all shift time is accounted for using appropriate waste and downtime codes
  • Complying with line clearance procedures during job change-overs
  • Ensuring jobs are 2nd checked prior to commencing run and paperwork is countersigned accordingly
  • Recording of relevant information; completion of paperwork and labels; maintaining traceability throughout process
  • Strapping, protecting and labeling any materials that are to be returned to stock
  • Communicating with the operator on the previous / following shift at shift hand-overs
  • Assisting in other areas of the Conversion Department where required
  • Inform / consult with conversion supervisors on any departmental related issues
Shifts:Follow a 4on 4off shift pattern consistence of:
  • 2x Day Shifts - 6:00am - 6:00pm
  • 2x nights - 6:00pm - 6:00am
Payrate:
  • £11.52ph

  • Previous experience of working within a Conversion department within the Print industry is ideal but not essential
  • Experience of working with a Manufacturing or Production sector preferable
