Job Description

Import Operator - 1 Year FTC - VR/21696Our client, a global market leader in the logistics industry, is looking for an Import Operator to join their team in Felixstowe on a 1 year full time contract basis. You will be there to control import accounts on a start to finish basis, and develop excellent customer relationships through the delivery of a consistent and high quality service.Duties of the Import Operator:

  • Manage all bookings from start to finish for allocated customers
  • Develop relationships with allocated customers
  • Issue booking instructions to origin offices
  • Process Import bookings
  • Accept all orders (from customer or overseas office) and assume full responsibility for their successful completion, including origin management, customs clearance and delivery
  • Proactively inform customer on shipment status, exceptions and provide intermediate updates on incident solution
  • Process UK Customs Clearance
  • Manage any other site involved in a shipment
  • Develop processes and tools to support customer interface and communications
  • Take and handle customer inquiries
  • Take and register all customer complaints and drive solution of customer complaints by solving it directly or assigning tasks to other function
  • Ensure correct charges are highlighted / passed for billing
  • Full responsibility for correct P/L per file handled
    • Key skills required for the Import Operator:
  • Strong background in Ocean Freight Forwarding
  • Customs experience is preferred but no essential if there is a level of overall knowledge
  • Good Administrative and MS Excel skills
  • A ‘get the job done’ attitude
  • Thoroughly embedded knowledge of start to finish Ocean Freight process
  • Results driven and good attention to detail
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships with customers
  • Able to prioritise, perform under pressure and work using own initiative
