Job Description

Main responsibilities & objectives as Head of Purchasing

  • Develop good and close working relationships with other areas of the company - particularly technical, sales and logistics
  • Manage and develop key supplier relationships, monitoring their performance and ongoing viability
  • Identify where new suppliers are required and source as appropriate
  • Create, update and maintain item master data files for suppliers and over 5,000 line items
  • Lead stock rationalisation process with the aim of reducing the number of stocked lines with minimal impact on customer service
  • Ensure all purchasing policies and procedures are properly documented and kept up to date
  • Oversee the operations and daily activities of the purchasing department
  • Performance manage, develop and motivate purchasing staff
  • Direct continuous improvement of purchasing processes in line with changing organisational needs and market conditions
My client, based in Sudbury Suffolk, are a leading distribute heating products / components to clients throughout the UK. Established since the early 1990s they have a huge customer base and are exclusive distributors to many.Due to impending retirement, they now seek an experienced Purchasing Manager ASAP.Experience & attributes as Head of Purchasing

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and scheduling software
  • Ability to gather and analyse data and to work with figures
  • Bring new skills and ideas into the business
  • Comfortable in both hands-on and strategic situations
  • Good communication, negotiating and networking skills
