Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLELiberty Speciality Steels currently have a fantastic opportunity for an innovative Project Engineer to join our team at Stocksbridge. In this role, the Project Engineer will add value to the organisation by critiquing and developing business cases for the organisation’s various plant areas, as well as lead a team of talented and passionate project engineers to realise the business benefit through well controlled and planned project execution.Reporting to the Works Engineer, and as a partner with the plant managers, the Project Engineer role will see you responsible for leading the project engineering function. You will be required to engage with your team, as well as internal and external technical specialists, to assist in the development of business cases for various projects as well as developing a framework with our finance partners to ensure that projects are executed efficiently, safely, and meet the business objectives. You will be actively involved in compliance audits, energy efficiency assessments, overseeing statutory compliance and maintaining the engineering blueprint in accordance with change and design control procedures. You will be capable of working effectively across a variety of stakeholders to ensure optimal outcomes for the business. You will benefit from the diverse and highly visible nature of the work you undertake.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Project Engineer will undertake the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Leading, mentoring and coaching a dynamic team of highly skilled engineers and draftsmen to develop them into the next generation of leaders of our growing business.
  • Partnering with the Works Engineer and Directors, determine the overall asset strategy and development plan for the business considering available resources
  • Provide technical engineering and design resource to operational areas for minor works and be the subject matter expert for detailed engineering queries in your discipline, as well as managing queries outside your discipline.
  • Act as a SME for MoC and other existing governance processes
  • Continue to develop and improve engineering, design and project management controls and framework to decrease risk and improve efficiency for the business
  • Working with other functional groups within the organisation to coordinate the provision of technical support
  • Collaborating with consultants, suppliers and vendors to ensure services are provided within plan and specifications
  • Ensuring all project engineering work is completed as scheduled to quality, safety standards and budget, while meeting the business need
  • Promote operational discipline and high performance in work execution and enhances the technical knowledge of operational areas members through knowledge sharing and system simplification.
    • REQUIRED SKILLSThe successful Project Engineer will be a performance and achievement oriented professional with leadership capability, who is motivated by exceeding expectations and providing excellent results.A previous background in governance and engineering or project development and execution will see you well placed for the challenges of this role. To be successful you will demonstrate the following criteria:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Bachelors or higher depending on other experience)
  • Extensive project engineering experience, operational experience also desirable
  • Sound understanding of legal requirements and British and International Standards
  • Sound understanding of process safety and industry standard mechanisms of assessment and control (eg. HAZID, HAZOP, PSSR)
  • Detailed knowledge of complex processes, the associated machinery and control systems
  • Well-developed communication and relationship building skills and an ability to work with various stakeholders from diverse backgrounds;
  • An understanding of risk management, auditing processes and experience in undertaking appropriate actions based on audit findings;
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem solving skills with a collaborative approach to finding pragmatic solutions;
  • Be a thought leader with the ability to connect the dots and work with ambiguity;
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to resolve conflict and influence outcomes.
  • Strong MS Office skills and an understanding of engineering software.
