Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLELiberty Speciality Steels currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical Section Engineer to join our Stocksbridge site. Working within the High Value Manufacturing division, the Mechanical Section Engineer will be responsible for managing maintenance operations and staff, overseeing engineering operations of all equipment within the area, and ensuring that the department operates within agreed financial, operational, safety and environmental targets.The postholder will play a key role in continuous improvement initiatives and must be capable of developing best maintenance and repair strategies within the constraints of agreed budgets. The Mechanical Section Engineer will also be responsible for implementing safe working practices and procedures within the department, in order to comply with all aspects of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Mechanical Section Engineer will undertake the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Direct and control the operations of the engineering resources to meet the business requirements and achieve the required standards of plant availability, costs and performance.
  • Provide technical and engineering expertise to develop plant and resolve engineering problems.
  • Formulate and control Capital, Revenue and Major maintenance plans for the equipment in your area of responsibility with responsibility for justification, and implementation of sanctioned schemes.
  • Ensure that Departmental personnel and contractors operate within and comply with Liberty policy and statutory Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Ensure that services provided are technically sound and employ most efficient practices in order to maintain a high standard of service and competitiveness.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers of Labour, Specialist Engineering services and equipment, and maintenance of plant to achieve the required standards of service and cost.
  • Manage a framework of competence-based training and assessment of staff and Industrial grade employees and agency labour to an agreed training matrix and efficient time scales
  • Engage with Production areas; develop Service Level Agreements and measures of customer satisfaction and service delivery.
  • REQUIRED SKILLSThe Mechanical Section Engineer role requires a leader who is capable of managing, motivating and developing a multi-functional workforce.The jobholder will have a strong engineering management background together with practical and technical knowledge of plant maintenance - ideally in heavy industry.An engineering degree is preferred, together with 5 years proven experience at supervisory level.The jobholder should have commercial experience in order to identify and develop sourcing opportunities and negotiate with outside suppliers/contractors.A detailed knowledge of Health and Safety and Environment legislation is required, particularly around cranes, with an ability to implement the compliance requirements as part of departmental operations.BENEFITS
