Job Description

The Infrastructure Engineer will part of a new team working with network professionals to design, build and maintain the IT infrastructure as well be part of the major infrastructure migration across to the latest Cisco ISE platform using SDWAN, and to supportan emergency service in delivering critical IT systems.Client DetailsNational organisation within the public sector based in StaffordshireDescriptionThe Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for overseeing a team of network specialists and is expected to deliver specialist 3rd line support for all core network infrastructure platforms, including supporting the implementation and design of new solutionsand monitoring of overall system performance.

  • Provide specialist technical skills and knowledge to support the availability and performance of core network infrastructure application delivery platforms, including performance of data centres, data storage services, servers and back-ups.
  • Apply best practice approaches to network infrastructure management, using technologies such as Cisco ISE and SDWAN to ensure that performance is monitored and governed effectively.
  • Specialist technical knowledge that facilitate the relevant incident, configuration, availability, capacity, continuity and release management in line with agreed procedures.
  • Assist the IT Partner (Networks & Devices) in formulating strategic direction for the team.
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex technical issues arising through the help desk, facilitating timely resolution
  • Monitor and manage service levels and performance standards for the team.
  • Have regular contact with various key stakeholders across the force in order to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • To provide reports and business cases in support of making recommendations for improvements or amendments to systems within the team.
  • Plan and organise individual or team activity to meet the demands on the infrastructure workload.
  • Provide specialist technical assistance to projects which may often be complex in nature, ensuring solutions meet the required quality levels and that specialist information and/or advice is offered to assist senior colleagues in making appropriate decisions
  • Interpret statistical data and advise management of trends.
  • Revise or develop procedures and policies, and contribute to their successful implementation in order to deliver appropriate benefits and ensure legislative or security requirements are met.
ProfileEssential
  • Post graduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Cisco CCNP certified
  • At least 3 years working in a 3rd line network engineer role
  • Juniper Junos experience
  • Knowledge of Cisco ISE
  • SDWAN knowledge
  • Firewall configuration knowledge
Desirable
  • Aruba experience
  • Experience in the use of F5 load balancers
  • Experience of handling proxy settings
  • Working knowledge of VPN solutions (ideally Checkpoint)

  • Based in Staffordshire
  • Salary £38,000 to £45,000 -This role will involve being On Call which will pay a further £3,500 on top of the salary stated above
