Job Description

Are you passionate about electronics, and a maker at heart We are looking for an intelligent, experienced electronics engineer who sees their career as more than just a day job, but an extension of their hobby. You love designing electronics and want to share your passion and experience with others. You have your own electronics lab because you love designing products and need an outlet for your creativity away from the job. You enjoy designing and building devices that solve everyday problems and see value in open source projects that share knowledge and experience with others.We design open source projects, and create content targeted at helping engineers of all experience levels expand their skills and become more efficient in their day to day work, though we are not a training provider. You will write about electronics concepts, create design guides and work on open source projects that will act as reference designs for others to learn from. You will have a great deal of freedom to share your experiences and knowledge on topics you are passionate about, and create projects that interest you. Ideally, you are the sort of person who needs a creative outlet for all the project ideas you have and want to tell the world about. This job is your opportunity to be well paid while working on projects and researching electronics concepts that fascinate you.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creation of open source electronics projects from start to finish.
  • Design and simulate high performance, high quality circuits.
  • Prototyping using through hole and surface mount components size down to 0402 and DFN type packages.
  • Write about electronics topics such as design strategy, components, certification and test, design rules and requirements for protocols.
    • This hands on position requires extensive recent experience with:
  • 5+ years industry experience designing electronics including full project lifecycle.
  • Excellent English communications and writing skills.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Methodical problem solving skills.
  • Aptitude for mathematics, specifically with regards to calculations related to circuit design.
  • Experience in product design, design for test and design for manufacture.
  • Analogue, Digital and Power circuit design.
  • Hands on experience with ARM Cortex, ADC, DAC, voltage regulation, and analogue circuits.
  • Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout, ideally using Altium or Circuit Studio.
  • Simulation using SPICE (eg: TinaTI, LTSPICE, Altium.)
  • Able to read schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Hand prototyping skills using components down to 0402 and DFN.
  • Use of standard electronics tools including surface mount soldering, multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Willingness to rapidly learn new concepts.
    • It is desirable to have recent experience with:
  • Firmware development (e.g.: C++, MBED/MCUXpresso/STM32CubeIDE/Simplicity Studio.)
  • Lithium polymer battery charging.
  • Thermal management on circuit boards/power components.
  • DC/AC inverters, or solar inverters.
  • RF Design (e.g.: WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, LoRa).
  • Low noise audio amplifiers for speakers/headphones and microphones.
  • High speed design/layout (e.g.: DDR3/4, PCIe, USB3, Gigabit Ethernet).
  • Experience with device certification (e.g.: CE, FCC, IC, TUV, UL).
  • Understand EMC immunity and emissions.
  • Understand general circuit protection requirements (ESD, isolation, OVP, OCP).
    • This position will continue to be remote working after COVID, and is highly flexible when it comes to work hours. We’re strong believers in productivity and results, not the hours you are available. You must be a British Citizen or must have an existing right to live and work in the UK. You may be required to travel to national and international trade shows and events once these events return to normal. You must be eligible to enter Canada, which requires that you do not have any criminal convictions.This position requires a highly self-motivated person who can work independently where necessary with little guidance once up to speed. You should be highly organised, and able to schedule your time to meet deadlines. You must have exceptional attention to detail, and take pride in your work. Required skills
