Job Description

Purpose of the role This role is responsible for directing and developing IQE’s Photonics business which encompasses InP and GaAs epitaxial wafer sales, marketing and business development across global markets. The successful candidate will have experience of compound semiconductor product technology, processing methods and device supply chains and be able to demonstrate strong industry knowledge and customer relationships in ways that will enable IQE to increase its footprint in this market. Being able to identify new partnerships, create opportunities to open up new markets and enhance IQE’s existing sales and marketing effort in the field will all be key requisites of this role. The Business Development Director will set annual and quarterly sales goals and will work alongside a multidisciplinary and geographically disperse team to exceed these goals.IQE customer base is global and so business travel will be required as part of this role. The successful candidate must be able to travel 30% of their time.Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Photonics Business Unit commercial activities in the field of epitaxial wafer sales to global compound semiconductor markets.
  • Align product management, customer service, technology, operations, and associated resources to deliver consistent revenue and margin growth; aggressively and proactively pursue new opportunities to deliver strong commercial growth in device epitaxy
  • Manage the creation of customer-specific Tier account plans; align account plans to product and market strategies; execute account plans to increase IQE share at existing accounts and to gain market share by penetrating new accounts
  • Develop and strengthen existing customer relationships and create new engagements which enable IQE to expand its market reach
  • Monitor customer/market/competitor activity and provide feedback to the Photonics Business Unit and other company functions; leverage this insight to provide market-driven directions for new products and/or functionality
  • Work with Product Management to create pricing strategies that favorably position IQE products with our customers while simultaneously maximizing profit returned to IQE; assess margins and recommend changes in sales strategies where appropriate
  • Manage daily sales, marketing and customer engagement processes from within a CRM environment
  • Compile annual sales forecast for products; monitor and regularly report performance vs. budget and other key sales metrics such as order book, pipeline, quote volume, closure rate, etc.
  • Travel to customer sites, conferences/trade shows, or to IQE facilities as required by assignment, account/corporate objectives, or customer request
  • Qualifications / Essential SkillsEssential
  • Bachelors level qualification in a discipline which encompasses compound semiconductor device or materials technology (for example, Physics or Electronic Engineering)
  • 10+ years in a customer-facing role in semiconductors
  • Strong communicator, team based player with experience of working in and directing a multi-disciplinary sales or business unit team
  • Must have working knowledge of photonics products and IQE technology so as to be able understand/interpret customer questions and to explain IQE product attributes

  • Postgraduate management qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification in semiconductor science and technology
  • Experience implementing and/or maintaining CRM software
  • Able to understand the forces shaping existing and emerging product markets, and develop / implement business solutions based on trends, opportunities, market needs, and technology capabilities
  • Able to represent the Photonics BU internally and externally, including frequent customer-facing events
