Job Description

We are recruiting for an Assistant Finance Manager to work on a fixed term contract for 10 months covering maternity, based at our offices in Westcliff on Sea, Essex. Ideally to start by mid Feb 2024. Working 5 days per week - 9am-5pm). There could be opportunityfor the role to become permanent. Renowned for our commitment to excellence and innovation, we are seeking an experienced andstrategic-minded Assistant Finance Manager to lead our finance team and payroll administration while contributing to our continued success.Position Overview: As the Assistant Finance Manager, you will oversee financial activities, manage a team, and administer payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have a robust accounting background, in-depth knowledge of recruitmentoperations, substantial payroll management experience and be AAT qualified or Part qualified accountant, actively studying towards a professional qualification ACA/ACCA/CIMA),Key Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Finance Manager will ensure an efficient financial month-end close process, with timely and accurate preparation and posting of manual journals (such as accruals, prepayments, transfer pricing, etc.) in line with the defined Finance monthend timetable.
  • Contribute to the integrity and accuracy of the balance sheet by performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations, as well as preparing supporting working papers.
  • Provide senior management, both within Finance and throughout the Business, with financial information by producing accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including variance analysis against projections/historical data alongside insightful writtencommentary.
  • Assist in the effective commercial and operational management of the business by attending meetings with departmental senior managers monthly to discuss monthly results and highlight key risks/opportunities.
  • Work directly with Heads of Departments and other senior stakeholders in the preparation and ongoing review of quarterly forecasts.
  • Collaborate with various departments, providing financial insights, supporting decision-making, and addressing financial queries.
  • Analyse cost structures, identify opportunities for cost optimisation, and offer recommendations for enhanced financial performance.
  • Identify and implement improvements to streamline financial operations and ensure accuracy in reporting.
  • Manage and guide a team of finance professionals, ensuring adherence to financial standards and fostering professional growth.
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments to employees and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Creating and updating accounts procedures.
  • Monitor AWR and action required changes.
  • Help execute an efficient and effective year-end audit process by undertaking advance audit planning, providing timely responses to external auditor queries where applicable, adhering to the deliverables timetable and maintaining a good working relationshipwith the external audit staff.
  • Assist with the timely and accurate production of financial statements.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience in a managerial role, displaying expertise in management accounting, financial analysis, team management, and payroll administration.
  3. Experience in managing payroll processes with a strong understanding of relevant regulations and compliance.
  4. Familiarity with the recruitment industry or a comprehensive understanding of recruitment operations.
  5. AAT qualified, or ACCA/CIMA/ACA part qualified.
  6. Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  7. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  8. Ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to upholding high-quality standards.
  10. Keen to learn and progress.
