Job Description

We are on the lookout for a Manual Machinist for our client in South Molton.Responsible for setting and operating manual turning, milling and/or grinding machines to produce parts to engineering technical drawings whilst following company procedures and safe working practices. The ideal candidate will have the knowledge to reviewparts to ensure they comply with measurements on drawings and take remedial action as needed to ensure compliance.

  • Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 AM - 16:45 PM, Friday 08:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Job Type: Full Time; Permanent
  • Salary: Competitive
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Select and load tooling as appropriate to machine
  • Check accuracy of first off and parts using appropriate measurement tools
  • Take corrective action to rectify errors
  • Obtain & maintain approved operator status for machines and processes
  • Undertake inspection process of other team members work when required
  • Work on own initiatives and resolve any issues or problems to company specific procedures
  • Knowledge & application of lean principles/tools/5S/seven wastes, participating in Kaizen events
  • Flexible and adaptable to work on different machines
  • Flexible in work patterns to meet business needs
  • Maintain regular maintenance checks (TPM) on machines
  • Maintaining a safe working environment
  • Produce parts to a high quality standard within expected timescales
Clients requirements:
  • Experience in setting & operating manual Turning, Milling and Grinding machines is essential
  • Experience of using Gun Drills advantageous
  • Proficient with Machine Shop Measurement Techniques
  • Experienced in selecting and using appropriate measurement equipment
  • Competent in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing
  • Experience of Programming and Operating CMMs is advantageous
  • Knowledge of COSHH and safe working practices
  • Apprenticeship or similarly experienced Machinist with Turning, Milling and/or Grinding
