Job Description

Lynx always try to provide a high standard of staff thereforesuccessful candidates must be able to show pride and commitment to their work.We are recruiting on behalf of our client, who is looking to recruit a Library Customer Service Assistant to deliver an efficient customer-focused front line library, information and ICT service, assisting customers of all ages and backgrounds to make fullused of the library resources and facilities.Successful applicants must have a Basic DBS on the update service. You must have 3 or more GCSEs including English, an ICT qualification, and demonstratable experience in using Microsoft Office, email, and the internet. You must have relevant face-to-facecustomer service experience, be familiar with digital technology, and be able to work with a wide range of ages/abilities/backgrounds, with the ability to listen and interpret the needs of library users.Duties of the role include:

  • Providing a welcoming/efficient customer service in a frontline environment
  • Assisting customers with the full range of resources/services, responding proactively to enquiries
  • Answering face-to-face/telephone/digital enquiries, e.g. by email, using printed, digital, and other resource formats including the internet, and referring on appropriately where required
  • Assisting customers with general ICT trouble shooting enquiries, getting started using library digital resources including PCs, and WiFi, logging on, using MS Word, accessing the internet, and setting up an email.
  • Actively promoting resources and services to customers including participation in engagement and promotional activities
  • Operating a computerised Library management system, undertaking all duties associated with supporting customers with self-service technology
  • Setting up and participating in events/activities as required, e.g., delivery of a storytime or a digital drop-in session
  • Processing payments and dealing with enquiries connected to item sales, reservations, fines, and activity charges
  • Shelving resources, including loading and pushing of trolleys
  • Carrying out routine stock maintenance
  • Undertaking administrative duties, including the collection of statistical information
  • Liaising with other staff and supervisors, ensuring workflow is maintained
  • Ensuring the physical security of the building, including locking up and correct use of council equipment that is used in connection with work performed
  • Ensuring that confidentiality of customer records is maintained at all times
  • Contributing to special projects and other duties/activities commensurate with the grade
