Job Description

Robert Half are partnering with a growing software business, specialising in energy, environmental and carbon trading markets. The business are now looking to appoint a new Financial Controller (UK No.1).The Financial Controller (UK No.1) will be leading a finance function comprising of a small highly skilled team, your role encompasses the comprehensive spectrum of financial operations. From financial accounting, statutory compliance, budgeting and forecasting,tax compliance, including income tax and VAT. Continuously looking at improvements and the efficiency of function, reducing time in transactional processing and more emphasis on adding commercial value.The Financial Controller (UK No.1) will be the linchpin in managing and reporting to the Global Head Office. Delivering monthly management accounts for the UK and EU business units. Your responsibilities extend to producing insightful variance analysis andfinance commentary, contributing to the strategic decisions that shape the businesss success.Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
  2. Financial Performance Analysis:
    • Monitor and analyse financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insightful recommendations to improve efficiency and profitability.
  3. Financial Reporting:
    • Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  4. Board Reporting and Presentations:
    • Prepare and present board reporting, papers, and presentations on financial matters.
  5. Strategic Financial Support:
    • Collaborate with the CFO to provide financial expertise and advice to support organisational projects and programs, contributing to overall organisational transformation.
  6. Procurement Support:
    • Support the procurement function in delivering an optimum purchasing framework, efficient supplier management, and high-quality procurement processes.
  7. External Audits:
    • Manage the external audit process to ensure compliance and accurate representation of financial data.
  8. Ownership of Finance Function:
    • Own the end-to-end finance function, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives.
  9. Financial Policies and Procedures:
    • Develop and implement appropriate financial policies, procedures, and an accounting manual.
  10. Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to general accounting practices, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
  11. Systems Implementation:
    • Ensure successful finance delivery in new systems implementation and key business processes.
  12. Proactive Problem Resolution:
    • Take a proactive and hands-on approach to resolving finance matters within the team and across the business.
  13. Team Development:
    • Develop and coach a high-performing finance team, providing guidance, training, and mentoring to enhance professional growth and skills.
Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in cash flow management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience in developing value-adding financial systems and/or processes.
  • Absolute discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Knowledge of Sage is desirable but not essential.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to coach and influence for positive outcomes.
  • Ability to analyse financial data and prepare reports, statements, and projects.
  • Commercial and business awareness.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective facilitation, collaboration, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritise workload accordingly.
  • Well-developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulation.
