Job Description

As Army chefs, our skills and motivation to deliver the necessary supplies, even in the most challenging environments, are what make us unique.We deliver the best experience to our units every day; from state banquets and fine dining to supporting humanitarian and disaster intervention across the world. In return, the Army offers the fantastic experiences, including: travel, Adventurous Training and opportunities to develop skills outside of the trade.WORLD-CLASS TRAININGJoin us and you’ll start by learning the soldiering skills common to every member of the British Army, like outdoor survival and the safe handling of weapons. Then you’ll learn the specialist skills that will make you an expert in your role. Over your training period, you’ll earn your C+E Driving License alongside learning about the Royal Logistic Corps. Youll then spend 18 weeks at the Defence Food Service Wing at Worthy Down. First, youll learn about food and personal hygiene. Then you start working in the kitchen where you have the chance to earn a Level 2 qualification in Health & Safety. Training ends with four weeks of field catering, including five days learning Basic Close Combat Skills.GAIN QUALIFICATIONSThe Army can help you gain a range of qualifications. These could include:

  • Levels 1 & 2 - Functional Skills
  • Level 2 - Production Chef
  • Level 3 - Senior Production Chef Cooking
  • Levels 2 & 3 - Health & Safety
  • Levels 2,3 & 4 - Nutrition
  • Level 3 - Education & Training
  • Levels 3 & 4 - Facilities Management
  • SHOW PEOPLE WHAT YOU’RE CAPABLE OFWell be with you every step of the way as you move up the ranks. From the moment you begin your training youll get all the support and encouragement you need to make a success of your career. Work hard and youll soon get promoted, which means more responsibility and extra pay. Become a Chef and you’ll:
  • Earn a starting salary of around £15,900 during Basic Training which will rise to £20,000 after completing 26 weeks’ training or after completing your Initial Trade Training, if less than 26 weeks
  • Receive subsidised accommodation and facilities, increasing your disposable income
  • Receive free medical and dental health cover
  • Have the continuous access promotional opportunity and to continually progress your career
  • Be sponsored to earn valuable civilian-recognised qualifications
  • Take part in Adventurous Training and be able to play your favourite sports.

  • Regular Army age: 16.6 - 35.6 years
  • Army Reserve age: 17.9 - 49.11 years
  • Qualifications you’ll need:No formal qualifications required.Fitness requirements:
  • Mid-thigh pull of 46kg
  • Medicine ball throw of 2.9m
  • 2km run in 11min 15 sec (11 min 30 sec for Junior Entry)
