Job Description

MTrecs new career opportunityOur client are specialists in their market sector, they are now looking to recruit an Automation Engineer on a permanent basis.If you have automation experience, are a skilled PLC Programmer with Allan Bradley controls- this role could be ideal for you.The Job you’ll do

  • The role of the Automation Engineer is to develop specified improvement projects.
  • Projects share one common goal which is continuous improvement.
  • Specific improvement projects are generated by the company lean six sigma culture and from best practices existing within the client group.
  • The role requires that projects are researched, prepared for capital approval, actioned to completion on time and within budget.
  • Projects are typically of electro/mechanical nature and focus on heavy machining and heat treatment production processes where higher levels of automation, reduction in handling and elimination of non-value add time is the goal.
  • Adhere to and promote team culture and safety initiatives at all times.
  • Defining and managing engineering projects relating to safety, plant reliability, process improvement, new product development and cost saving.
  • Lead and support in-house and / or contract labour as required, single and multi-discipline.
  • Liaise with production, continuous improvement, accounts and engineering personnel to optimise project benefits.
  • Take full advantage of expertise and best practice within other client facilities.
  • Assess the benefits, viability and feasibility of projects based on data and fact.
  • Set out capital, running cost and cost saving projections sufficient to support capital requests.
  • Use proven project planning technique to ensure on time, on budget completion.
  • Monitor and report on impact of projects after completion.
  • Use your skill, knowledge and training to design/implement safe robust engineering solutions.
  • Assist in the evaluation process of improvement projects resulting in rejection, approval, ranking or parking etc.
  • Use a fact based approach to research.
  • Research projects to optimise their viability to meet business needs and return. (ROC)
  • Evaluate minimum changes needed to "imported" best practice equipment for compliance with local regulations, health and safety.
  • Ensure safety considerations are paramount in all project development / design / implementation.
  • Ensure that projects maintain or improve quality.
  • Prepare effective fact based business case presentations.
  • Ensure frequent updating of project status with interested parties through IT / verbal presentations.
  • Use appropriate visual project planning methods to ensure project completion on time.
  • Devise and implement appropriate tests for project compliance with customer requirements.
  • Support team working principles.
  • Seek suitable and reliable sources for plant and equipment focusing on standardisation where possible.
  • To work with suppliers to develop concepts, drawings and specification with a focus on "Turn key" projects.
  • Ensure that outside services which are project related are supplied cost-effectively at optimum performance, quality and efficiency in line with specifications.
  • Where necessary visit suppliers / suppliers premises to evaluate capability.
  • Specify plant and equipment at machine and component level.
  • Control projects to maintain time line and budget.
  • Support and advise on the development of training prior to hand over of projects to production.
  • Support and advise on the training of maintenance personnel prior to project hand over to production and initiate external service support where appropriate.
  • Advise on critical spares stocking / contingency prior to project hand over.
  • Support and advise on aspects of the risk assessment and standard operations documentation.
  • Ensure that all documentation relating project equipment is filed and accessible to relevant engineering personnel.
  • Ensure prompt follow up where process concerns or problems become apparent following project completion.
About You
  • Minimum Degree qualified in an engineering discipline.
  • Qualifications or training in automation, robotics, CAD, and drafting, 6 sigma and Leadership / Team working are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of current design and PUWER requirements would be beneficial.
  • Development of automated production machinery, machine fixturing and tooling, cost improvement reduction project work in a production environment.
  • Track record and experience in dealing with contractors and suppliers.
  • Preparing specifications and concepts sufficient for them to develop quotations.
  • Ideally for a "turnkey" solution.
  • Modernising and adapting production equipment.
