Job Description

The ultimate vision is Singleton playing a key part as an innovative health campus offering 21st century services, care and values.Working as part of our dedicated multi-disciplinary team, we will value you and your contribution to delivering excellent, safe and compassionate care to our patients.As a University Health Board, we have a strong focus on training, teaching and research with strong links to Swansea University, which sits next door to Singleton Hospital.Our current vacancies exist in the following specialties:Ward 3 - Elderly Care: Ward 3 is a 30 bedded acute/rehabilitation care of the elderly ward, providing holistic care in a friendly, safe environment encouraging personal independence. We care for patients with complex discharges due to social and medical needs, as well as patients via the ICOP (Integrated Care of Older Person) team and the new Hospital to Home scheme.Ward 4 - Orthopaedic and Stroke Rehabilitation:Ward 4 is a 30-bedded mixed sex Elderly Care & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation ward. We care for a combination of medical patients and patients who require rehabilitation following an admission to Morriston under trauma, stroke and orthopaedics. Our speciality is rehabilitation and complex discharge planning, as the patients tend to have a variety of social and medical needs.Ward 6 - Endocrine & Gastroenterology: Ward 6 is a 30 bedded Acute General Medical Ward, specialising in Endocrinology and Gastroenterology. The ward care for patients having an acute diabetic crisis, patients suffering from eating disorders, alcohol withdrawal as well as a multitude of other endocrine and gastroenterology disorders. There are many procedures and treatments practiced on the ward such as ascitic drains, sliding scale insulins, nasogastric tube insertions/feeding, total parental nutrition.Ward 8 – Respiratory: Ward 8 is a 30-bedded acute respiratory ward. The ward caters for patients with a number of acute conditions as well as chronic conditions such as tuberculosis, pneumothorax, haemothorax, pulmonary embolisms, community acquired pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Ward 9 - Cardiology & Acute Medicine: Ward 9 is a 23-bedded ward, which treats a range of acute and chronic cardiac conditions. It has the ability to cardiac monitor four patients at the bedside and six mobile patients via telemetry either on or off ward. We have recently opened one cubicle specifically to treat patients requiring radioactive iodine via the endocrine team.Why SwanseaSwansea has some of the best beaches in the UK, including the stunning Gower peninsula - the UK’s first designated area of outstanding natural beauty.For trekkers and hill-walkers, the rugged mountains of the Brecon Beacons are just a short drive away. Mountain bike trails are also readily accessible.Swansea is a lively city with plenty of restaurants, cinemas and arts venues.
