Job Description

Band 8A/7 Clinical Scientist (Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Protection)An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Clinical Scientist, with experience in diagnostic radiology physics and radiation protection, to make a contribution to our friendly and expanding Radiation Physics Service.The Service provides scientific support and expert advice in diagnostic radiology physics, radiation protection, radioactive waste management, and radiation emergency planning to Swansea Bay University Health Board and a number of other establishments throughout South-West Wales.The Service is part of a large, modern and well-integrated Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering which has strong links with the adjacent Swansea University and offers accredited training for Clinical Scientists and Practitioners.You will be based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea which overlooks Swansea Bay and is close to the fishing village of Mumbles. Swansea is a great place to live, work and rest and situated on the Gower peninsula offers incredible views, unrivalled walking routes and some of the UKs best beaches.You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in all elements of medical physics expert duties in diagnostic radiology, and contribute to high quality postgraduate teaching and specialist training programmes. You will also be supported and encouraged to work towards RPA certification.The successful applicant will be an HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist and either recognised as a medical physics expert in diagnostic radiology by having their name on the RPA2000 list of MPEs, or close to applying to be on the list.We are happy to consider applicants with less experience or who are currently working towards MPE certification or have recently finished/nearly finished the STP training programme, but appointment in this case will be at a lower Band 7.Due to the nature of the Section’s service delivery a willingness to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential and a department car is available.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.For further details / informal visits contact:Simon Evans, Head of Radiation PhysicsSimon.C.Evans@wales.nhs.uk /
