Band 2 - Band 3It is an exciting time to be joining Public Health Wales Microbiology as we look to dramatically expand our workforce and the way Microbiology services are delivered. Public Health Wales Microbiology consists of a network of laboratories currently based at 7 sites across Wales. Opportunities have arisen for Band 3 Higher Biomedical Support Workers;The post holders will work as a Higher Level Biomedical Support Worker across the region at one of the Public Health Wales Microbiology Laboratories. You will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales following significant investment in new technology and staff. We aim to provide a responsive, modern, rapid diagnostic service for the people of Wales.The successful post holders will be fully supported, with full training given from an established dedicated training team. You will be encouraged to develop and opportunities will be given to enhance your career. Public Health Wales has close links with nearby academic institutions and offers in house training including the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Certificate of achievement parts one and two.The post holders will provide supervision and training to all Biomedical Support Workers, working closely with the training leads to ensure all Biomedical Support Workers have up to date competencies recorded.The post holder will coordinate deployment of Biomedical Support Workers in conjunction with senior staff to ensure that all areas of service delivery are adequately maintained.The post holder will support the diagnostic services of the department, ensuring the department meets or exceeds both local and nationally agreed standards of service delivery. The post holder will support the laboratory in maintaining quality accreditation.The post holder will work as part of the laboratory team where appropriate liaising with laboratory staff, medical staff and other hospital staff, users, members of the public and other external contacts.The Microbiology network provides services across the 24/7 period based on agreed shift patterns. This can differ based on need but all post holders will be expected to participate in 24/7 working either at their main base or in support of other sites should the need arise or as part of the agreed local rota.
