Join us as aDeputy laboratory Managerin our Brentwood Hospital and play your part in building a healthier nation.Our Pathology department is one of the busiest multi-disciplinary laboratories within Nuffield Health, providing pathology results and blood transfusion services for 3 Nuffield Health hospitals in the South East of England (Cambridge & Ipswich), currently has an internal opportunity for a Deputy Laboratory Manager.Our modern, well-equipped hospital provides a range of services and treatments from outpatients and minor procedures through to inpatients and major surgical specialties. Hospital facilities include 42 beds, 4 Theatres, an Endoscopy Suite, 16 consulting rooms, MRI, CT, General Imaging, Pathology, Physiotherapy and an onsite Pharmacy. We are established as one of the leading providers of healthcare in the area and have just completed a major refurbishment of the Endoscopy Unit.Find out more about our hospital-hospitals/brentwoodThe OpportunityAs our Deputy Laboratory manager you will be responsible for the supervision of a multi-site pathology laboratory, taking responsibility for day to day activities within the team and delivering high quality biomedical diagnostic testing, interpretation and reporting and in the absence of the pathology manager ensure continuation of service.

  • Deputise for the Pathology Manager in their absence including end of month returns for both financial and professional key performance indicator reports
  • To ensure the day-to-day running and supervision of staff across the 3 labs, including work scheduling / rotas.
  • Ensuring induction, development and training in laboratory techniques and procedures, and providing technical supervision.
  • Troubleshoots all equipment and ensuring all is maintained and used correctly.
  • Ensure stock levels are monitored and maintained to agreed levels.
  • Participates in the annual objective setting and performance review process for the staff within the whole department.
  • To perform all biomedical diagnostic testing, interpretation and reporting in accordance with standard operating procedures and action all abnormal results
  • Evaluates outcomes of investigations and takes actions in relation to anomalous or poor quality results or insufficient information
  • The personTo succeed as a Deputy Laboratory Manager, you will need:
  • Great communication skills to appropriately and effectively to inform, influence or persuade people in relation to varied subjects and situations.
  • To be registered with the HCPC as a biomedical scientist with post registration experience. Multi- disciplinary experience and Postgraduate / Masters qualification would be desirable.
