Job Description

Senior Conservation Social ScientistReference number: A0690920Location: FlexibleSalary: Starting at £30,817 to £34,471 per annumHours: Full timeContract: PermanentOur client, a Centre for Conservation Science is looking for a talented and experienced person to join their team providing social science research and evidence to inform the wide portfolio of work of the organisation.This is a varied and challenging post, reporting directly to the Principal Conservation Social Scientist, Dr Joelene Hughes, within the People Conservation Science section of the Centre. The work programme will span international and UK nature conservation issues, and the post-holder will be expected to balance their own project work with line management of others, occasional training of partners and provision of general evidence-based social science advice to diverse interest groups across the organisation. There will be a focus, though not exclusive, on providing support for projects seeking joint conservation and human livelihood outcomes, currently particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.The post requires you to have a doctorate, a good working knowledge of disciplines relevant to conservation social science (eg political ecology, behavioural economics , psychology or anthropology) and preferably at least five years experience of problem-solving research work in the conservation sector. A good understanding of international conservation, particularly in Africa, is desirable.You will be expected to use appropriate oral and written communications to effectively communicate science to different audiences, influence funding, policy and other key decisions. You will have experience of conducting experimental and quasi-experimental research using both qualitative and quantitative methods and be skilled in using face-to-face interview techniques e.g. Participatory Appraisal, Key Informant interviews or facilitating focus group discussions, to collect unbiased data from individuals or small groups.You will have experience of winning funding for scientific research, and a track record of taking scientific projects from study design to completion, publishing the results efficiently in peer-reviewed journals and communicating results to diverse audiences and stake-holders though various fora and media.Closing date: 7 October 2020Interview date: 15 October 2020To Apply and for More Information:Please click the apply button.
