Job Description

RSR Regulatory Services is a market leading recruitment business dedicated to supplying experienced practitioners on a temporary, contractual or permanent basis to the Law Enforcement, Cyber Security, Offender Management and Regulatory Services talent marketsRSR Regulatory are currently recruiting on behalf of our Sandwell based client for a Trading Standards Officer - Citizen and Consumer Protection.This is a temporary position initially for 3 months and offers a rate of pay of £16.06 per hour.Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Interpret and implement appropriate legislation, codes of practice and policies as per specialist area.
  • Act as an Enforcement Officer on all matters relating to the work of the Citizen & Consumer Protection Team.
  • Investigate complaints both criminal and civil.
  • Prepare prosecution reports for legal proceedings and represent the authority in Court when required.
  • Write clear and concise reports and correspondence in relation with any inspection, investigation or enforcement action undertaken.
  • Manage an allocated caseload with an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Keep appropriate case notes, seek approval for action where required and maintain an appropriate level of communication with all relevant service stakeholders.
  • Carry out detailed on-site inspections and develop subsequent reports.
  • Respond to complex requests for advice on civil or criminal law.
  • Respond to and investigate complex consumer complaints on civil and criminal law matters.
  • Effectively manage situations which may involve angry, difficult and upset customers and stakeholders.
  • Plan and implement a schedule of inspections, investigations on regulated organisations in line with professional and departmental expectations.
  • Secure compliance with legislation either through education, discussion and persuasion or enforcement action if required.
  • Carry out the assessment of goods and services to determine compliance.
  • Where qualified carry out tests on weighing or measuring equipment within the authoritys remit.
  • Attend and participate in team and other meetings as appropriate and undertake such personal training and development as may be required, as well as contributing to the development of the wider team.
Person Specification
  • Hold the baseline qualification to enable you to carry out food standards work.
  • Demonstrate competency against the framework specified in the Food Law Practice Guidance (March 2021).
  • Recent experience of conducting Food Standards Inspections.
  • Public sector food premises inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of the CIVICA environmental health database is desirable.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and use of the internet.
