Job Description

  • Your Role:
  • Engineering and defining builds, backup/restore, DR and monitoring standards
  • Providing day to day support and technical expertise
  • Taking ownership of and standardising the current Database infrastructure
  • Design and maintenance of a business-critical multi-site SQL environment
  • Working closely with developers and other IT teams - advising on design, performance tuning, discussing and implementing code changes
  • Understanding and managing database security
  • Performing out-of-hours work such as server migrations, patching and upgrades as necessary
  • Collaborating with the wider engineering and operational teams to resolve issues impacting Database infrastructure (e.g. IT infrastructure such as storage, VMs and networks)
  • Documentation of processes and procedures
  • Working with the development teams, providing clearly documented operational guides
  • Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Knowledge and experience with MS SQL, 2012, 2017, 2019 in a large enterprise
  • Expertise / knowledge of Transactional Replication
  • Installation and configuration of SQL server
  • Backup & Recovery of SQL server databases
  • Experience in database programming and design, query tuning and troubleshooting, and knowledgeable with HA/DR technologies (clustering, Log shipping, always-on)
  • Advanced understanding of T-SQL programming
  • Participate in multiple high priority projects simultaneously while interacting with peers to make the best technical decisions
  • Develop and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL
  • Research and promote new SQL Server database features and concepts
  • Provide off-hour support for production and development database environments as needed
  • Ability to deliver high quality, methodical and process driven work
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A willingness and desire to expand your skillset out to other database technologies

  • Power BI Reports Server
  • Redgate SQL Monitor / SQL Clone
  • Clustering (Windows)
  • Storage knowledge (SAN, Snapshots)
  • Networking knowledge (Firewalls, TCP)
  • PowerShell scripting
