Job Description

Mobile Services & Technical Standards ArchitectThe position is based in Motorola’s office in either Rugby or Hemel Hempstead in the UK, and will involve an amount of travel to Motorola and customer locations in the UK. The Technical Design team within UK Managed Services has responsibility for the generation of designs for a wide range of Customer and internal Technical Services. The group holds the in-life Technical Design Authority for these Technical Services and is responsible for ongoing design changes and technology refresh strategies for both the Airwave service and Emergency Services Network (ESN). Designs are generated both internally and by working with external suppliers.The technical Design Team resides with the Service Design organisation and works closely with other teams within this group, such as Service Design & Introduction.The Mobile Services Access Architect will form part of a multi-disciplined Technical Design team to maintain and progress the ESN and specifically the MS Access design and deliver the solution and services required for the ESN.The MS Access infrastructure provides Enhanced Packet Core (EPC) services for the ESN and is the principle interface towards the ESN Radio Access Network.Responsibilities include:

  • Provide the Technical Design Authority within UKMS for the mobile access network and the interfacing to the ESN Lot 3 Mobile Network Operator (MNO) network.
  • Interface with, and manage deliverables of, the core equipment supplier (Ericsson).
  • Lead the technical discussions with the MNO.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in technical discussion with the UK Home Office.
  • Compile and maintain Detailed design documentation and ensure approval by the Home Office
  • Provide Design Support for the implementation of in-life design changes as required through installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Work with UKMS Build and Test teams to agree and document detailed acceptance criteria with the supplier
  • Work with Test teams to assure that the implementation of the core network by the supplier meets the agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain an understanding of ongoing relevant global standards work (3GPP) and advise on how these may affect the UKMS ESN service.
  • There are no line management responsibilities.It is expected that suitable candidates will have several years of experience in the design/deployment of Mobile Telecoms Infrastructure including Evolved Packet Cores. Successful candidates are likely to hold a BS or higher Degree in an IT/Telecoms related subject.The following skills are considered essential:
  • Previous proven experience in the design, implementation, testing and troubleshooting of mobile core networks including the following components:
  • o Packet gateway (PGW) / Serving Gateway (SGW) subject matter expertise for the following:
  • Packet Gateway knowledge against 3GPP release 9 onward
  • IPv4 Transport and addressing
  • Quality of service Condition Information (QCI) handling from Underlying transport domain.
  • Access Point Names (APN) handling
  • GCP tunnelling protocols
  • IPSec
  • WiFi Access technologies
  • o HSS/HLRo PCRFo Authentication Authorization Accounting (AAA) servero DNSo eNUM
  • design and configuration of high availability and geographic redundant solutions
  • The successful candidate should:• Have an in-depth understanding of the 3GPP standards and interfaces• have experience of Ericsson core network equipment from a design and configuration perspective• Be fluent in spoken and written English• Have good communication skills and confidence to present solutions to customers and senior management.• Be a good problem solver and able to work at the architectural level of the designThe following skills are considered highly desirable but not essential:• Experience of MVNO architectures and implementation• Knowledge of OSS-BSS interworking relationship with core network systems operation.%MCEPASTEBIN% Required skills
