Job Description

Director of Corporate and Programme FinanceSalary c. £120,000PermanentHQ Central London, 3 days a week in the office"You will be our first Director of Corporate & Programme Finance, providing strategic financial planning, advice and financial insight across ARIA and their Programme Directors, reporting directly to our CFO/COO.Thisis truly a career changing executive appointment in the newly formed Advanced Research + Invention Agency, an R&D funding agency designed to make bold bets that complement and amplify the UKs world-class research ecosystem. Our mandate:create new capabilities that can benefit the UK and advance human progress."About ARIA Launched in January 2023 with a £800M budget, ARIA was formed to create transformative science and technology capabilities that will benefit the UK and help humanity thrive.ARIA is about to take bold and experimental steps that complement and amplify the UKs world-class research eco-system. The agencys Programme Directors will each run R&D programmes of up to £50m, creating a portfolio of ambitious projects.Role SummaryJoining us as the Director of Corporate & Programme Finance, you will be supporting ARIAs Programme Directors who will be working on ground-breaking programmes. You will report directly to the CFO/ COO and take full responsibility of all financial forecastingand planning. Ultimately you will be ensuring optimal foresight and maximization of programme expenditure.What Youll Do

  • Create, develop and manage ARIAs group level financial plans, projections and new programme scenarios.
  • Capture unstructured and uncertain requirements from the Programme team as they design, plan and implement the full delivery of the programmes.
  • Provide comprehensive insight on all programme information and analysis to the management team, Programme Directors and the Board.
  • Make informed strategic and funding recommendations to the organisation across the whole
portfolio of Programmes (up to £800m).
  • Build trusted and responsive strategic support to Programme Directors.
  • Ensure that ARIAs Programme Directors have visibility into reliable and transparent financial data on all Programme spend and future forecasts.
  • Inspire, develop and manage direct reports and team members to ensure that staff are properly trained and developed, and perform at an optimum level to provide an excellent service to the organisation.
  • Play an active role in developing ARIAs organisational culture, values and supporting organisational structures. We are essentially a "start-up" so you will need to be comfortable with an ever-changing evolving business model.
Who You Are
  • Hold a relevant financial qualification; member of professional accounting body (CIMA, CISI, ACCA etc).
  • Have previously worked in Corporate Finance advisory and/or Programme reporting of a similar sized budget.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and thrive in innovative and new situations, such as a start-up / scale-up environment.
  • Can develop new financial constructs and delivery vehicles.
  • Able to input ideas and concepts to the delivery of organisational strategy, ideally within a technical/scientific or project-based environment
  • Passionate about improving the world with science and highly motivated by the opportunity to build a world-changing organisation and community.
  • Be able to work collaboratively at all levels and have an adaptive mindset and approach for each individual programme.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills to develop inclusive and customer focussed stakeholder relationships.
