Job Description

Are you ready to embark on a journey into the world of exquisite wood craftsmanship Look no further!We have a permanent vacancy for an experienced and qualified Wood Machinist to work with a range of manual wood machinery in our clients Sawing and Sanding department at our site in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.This position is on a rotating 2-shift system of earlies and lates, Monday - Friday (38 hours) and shift allowance is paid on the late shift.What be you’ll doingThe main responsibility of the role will be to prepare and sand sheets of laminate for production to customer specification and order. In doing this you will:

  • Safely operate sawing and sanding machinery to manufacture products within customer specification.
  • Cut wooden laminate panels/ boards to size, lifting them manually.
  • Chamfer pads using both the Fixed Head Router, Vertical Spindle Moulder and Table Router
  • Carry out visual quality checks of products, reporting defects to Team Leaders / Supervisor.
This process uses a variety of manual classic machines (not CNC) such as a Wide Belt Sander, Panel Saw Sanding machines, Band Saw, Vertical Spindle Moulders, Fixed Overhead Routers, Table Router, Banding machine, so experience in these is desirable.This is a physically driven role and demands a good level of fitness, involving lifting weights up to as much as 60 kg, with frequent twisting and bending.To be successful in this role you will have:
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent including Maths & English (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent and a professionally recognized wood machining qualification, such as a Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Wood Machining or Construction, or time- served apprenticeship inWood Machining.
  • A minimum of 5 years wood machining experience.
  • Previous experience of working in a high-volume manufacturing environment, as part of a team
  • Experience using a Table Saw
  • Proficiency at reading technical drawings
  • The ability to work as part of a team and possess good written and verbal communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.

  • Good IT skills and experience in reading manufacturing or works orders.
  • Confident working with machinery in a fast-paced factory environment
