Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.We are seeking an exceptional scientist to work with SRUC and our partners The Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics & Health (CTLGH) in the field of the analysis and development and use of computational methods to analyse large genomic datasets, with a focus on tropical livestock genetics and health.We are looking to recruit someone with demonstrable skills in relation to the analysis of large genomic datasets, particularly analytical approaches that underpins the developments in genome wide association studies and genomic selection. We can and will provide any additional training and exposure to bioinformatics and computational biology.If you are interested in doing cutting edge research using a combination of state-of-the-art genomics technologies and bioinformatics/statistical genetics approaches to explore how genetic variants and environmental factors underpin individual variation in fitness traits (broadly defined) in tropical livestock, the position might be of interest.The postdoctoral researcher would have opportunities to contribute to ongoing projects in the Tropical Dairy Genetics Program of CTLGH, but would also be encouraged to develop new research directions and allows for much flexibility in the direction taken. The successful candidate will be expected to submit publications to scientific journals, attend and present at scientific conferences, and engage with other research partners on the project.The post holder will join a newly established group at SRUC based at the Roslin Institute, Edinburgh which has excellent computational facilities and exceptionally strong research groups of animal geneticists and breeders that the candidate can interact with.QualificationsPhD or equivalent qualification/experience in an area of biological sciences, molecular evolution, population genomics or related disciplines.ExperienceThe post holder will have significant experience in an area of biological sciences, molecular evolution, population genomics or related disciplines with a strong experience in bioinformatics/computational biology and/or statistical analysis of large and complex genomic datasets.Further details on the requirements of this role can be found in the Job Description document which you must read before applying for this role.
