Venesky-Browns client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Machine Learning Engineer for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £350-450/day (outside of IR35). Due to the current circumstances this role will initially be remote based.The Role:The post is to work alongside the geospatial data engineer to ensure that the data and imagery from satellites and other remote sources is prepared and available for use in conjunction with the large geospatial data sets collected under the programme, and develop, write and run machine learning (ML) code. You will also work on gathering together Analysis Ready Data (ARD) datasets from a range of computing environments (Google Earth Engine, CEDA, JASMIN) for these projects. You will work on tasks related to data collation and machine learning techniques applied to satellite data.Responsibilities:• Compiling and analysing data. • Creating data pipelines. • Gathering and preparing ARD data. • Creating training data for ML algorithms. • Creating and running ML code, including testing. Essential Skills:• Degree in IT, data engineering or science, environmental science or GIS and/or equivalent experience. • Problem solving skills in the field of geo processing in GIS and/or data analysis and data processing. • Capacity to build data pipelines for analysis. • Experience in writing Python or R code. • Experience in geo processing and/or data analysis of large environmental datasets Desirable Skills:• Experience and knowledge of machine learning techniques. • Knowledge of High Performance Computing (HPC) systems including cloud computing services. • Knowledge of earth observation, forestry and/or natural environment data and domains. • Experience with desktop and server-based GIS software packages and databases such as ESRI.
