Job Description

The department vision is based on Humble, Effective, Adaptable, Remarkable and Transparent (HEART) to make us the place to go for best practice offering safer, smarter and smoother radiology service by ensuring timely and accurately availability of diagnostic result at the right place and at the right time to support evidence based clinical decision to promote seamless, safe and high quality care.Radiology department budget is circa £24m budget and employs 352 WTE staff for modalities which comprise X-ray, CT, MRI, US, Interventional, Medical Photography, Nuclear Medicine and Breast Symptomatic and operate at various sites (QH, KGH, Fanshawe, Barking and Harold Wood).Radiology asset includes the following: three CTs, three static + a rental mobile MRIs, 20 US rooms, 12 X-ray rooms, 2 Bi-Plane + a basic interventional machine, four mammography machines and three Gamma camera etc. The department will be investing in more modern equipment in the coming years including the following SPECT CT, MRI, Hologic – Tomosynthesis and new Bi-plane machine.Our staff is our most valuable asset and thereby put more emphasis on skill mix by promoting training in FNA, Breast Ultrasound, Breast Biopsy and US MSK etc. We recruit a diverse workforce as we believe in representing the demographic of the community we are serving is one of the ways to understand and meet our patients’ needs effectively.Radiology system includes PACS, RIS and Soliton, and the implementation of the new PACS in 2015 with the tin client allows seamless remote reporting thereby supporting flexible working to achieve work-life balance.Main Duties of the Post• Support the general interventional radiology service along 4 other full time consultants.• Our IR work contains both vascular and non-vascular procedures. It also includes CT angio reporting. • On call cover for general intervention (currently 1:5)• Work cross site KGH and QH• We outsource our on call out of hours Angio-reporting from 8pm weekdays and 6pm weekends.• On call reporting is provided remotely with VPN network and PACS access.• Onsite on call work is required in emergency interventions. • Attending and occasionally chairing the Vascular MDT. • Our Intervention work load includes:o Peripheral vascular angioplasty and stenting. o EVARs.o Biliary drainage and stenting.o Nephrostomy insertion and ureteric stenting. o Uterine fibroid embolization. o Testicular vein embolisation. o PICC line, Hickman line and other venous line insertions. o Central venous angioplasty and stenting. o IVC filter insertion and retrieval.o US and CT guided biopsies and drainages.o Peripheral vascular thrombolysis. o Emergency bleeding emoblisation. o Gastrostomy insertion.Our future plans include the introduction of services as prostatic artery embolisation, image guided tumour ablations, hepatic tumour embolisation and dialysis fistula interventions. This is a Locum one year fixed term post containing an average of eleven programmed activities per week, with a possibility to add or decrease the number of programmed activities subject to discussion with the clinical leads.
