Job Description

Principal Technical Author c.£45-50k DOE & bonus & bensHYBRID WORKING – minimum 2 days on site in Medway37 hours per week - FLEXI TIME, core hours 10am – 3pm with an early finish every Friday!Are you an experienced Technical Writer with a background in EngineeringHave you worked with electronic products or technologies, used within defence, aerospace, or even automotive environmentsDo you want to work for an innovative, global market leaderPearson Whiffin Recruitment are delighted to be representing one of the UKs top employers within the Engineering sector!Our client is looking for a well-educated, knowledgeable Technical Author, capable of acting as a senior within a small but established team.Primarily responsible for accurately relaying technical information in a simplified way, the Principal Technical Author will need to draw on their knowledge of Simplified Technical English (STE) and S1000D to produce written materials, as well astheir solid foundation in practical Engineering.The key duties for this role include:

  • Extensive technical research using a variety of resources including schematics and engineering drawings, CAD models, production and industry regulations, specifications, and records in addition to ‘hands on’ inspection and validation of components and hardware.
  • Managing projects from start to finish inclusive of the creation and development of various technical publications.
  • Compiling and amending Parts Catalogues
  • Specifying illustrations in adherence to industry standards
  • Using a range of techniques commonly used within relevant sectors regarding data structures and management, format, archiving.
  • Extensive review, proofreading and development for various stakeholders.
  • Working closely with the immediate team as well as Engineers
  • Understanding and utilising common source database and content management methodologies related to the production, storage and delivery of technical publications.
  • Quality control of the above with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Supporting less experienced Technical Authors where necessary.
The successful candidate will have/be:
  • Qualified within an Engineering discipline to Level 4 as a minimum.
  • A proven track record of successful technical authoring within a relevant field
  • Good working knowledge of FrameMaker developed through previous roles.
  • Proficiency using process specification software such as EagleEPS.
  • Excellent knowledge of S1000D, with ability to use tools such as Standard Generalised Markup Language ( ISO 8879) and eXtensible Markup Language to ensure standardisation to industry specifications.
  • Demonstrable practical knowledge gained through a proven track record prior to technical writing career.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently but collaboratively, with a focus on mutual feedback and review of content amongst authoring peers.
